Toxic Rain Questions

POB says Decay gives highest DOT. I know that Decay is the separate DOT. So my question is that why don't people use it? I was wondering maybe if it is because that Decay doesn't apply to each POD or something?

Since I'm using RAT Toxic Rain, the spell totem with Wither is out of question. Withering Touch does apply 15 stacks eventually, right?

Does the additional arrow give one more pod? Is this ideal? I am asking because some people say it's not good idea due to its spreading out or something.

Is there enough AOE for each pod to apply DOT to a same enemy with a Concentrated Effect support gem with and without additional arrows?

What would be your ideal gem setup for RAT Toxic Rain.

Decay is an on-hit effect, and doesn't affect the DoT portion of the skill in any way - it applies to the initial hit and the final secondary explosion.
In addition, decay doesn't stack by multiple sources - it applies once.
Also, toxic rain has low damage effectiveness which will trim the decay's damage.
So toxic rain builds focused on DoT are likely to use any other more multiplier over decay. Even increased AoE - it results in more damage in relation to the skill mechanics.

Additional arrows create more pods.
But it's uncertain if they will add more damage than any AoE increase and higher AS. AoE is crucial for DoT based toxic rain (pod DoT overlaps), same for AS (more pods created in a certain period of time).
DoT toxic rain is about stacking overlapping damage applied as fast as possible.
So it depends mostly on the customization of the certain build.

Thank you! With additional arrow, I can only get more damage only if they can overlap with enough AoE. That means with enough additional arrows(at least 2+), Conc Effect is probably not wise to use with?

I am playing RAT build. 2+ projectiles will be easy because of the helmet enchantment and corrupted skirmish(already got). I think it's worth dropping Conc Effect for another DoT support gem with slightly less damage multiplier and better AoE coverage. Better AoE would mean more pods will overlay.

Unless you're massively stacking sources of increased AoE, conc. effect will likely result in net damage loss.

You'll need increased AoE anyway, even with additional arrows. Pod spread is somehow weird in this case, and if you like to min-max it's needed.
Basically AoE is bread and butter of this skill.

BTW I'm playing it as well atm. Went too greedy on HP nodes with no points in AoE. Now I'm gonna scrap it for CA - without the AoE caustic arrow is mostly superior.
