Training Dummy for Hideouts

This just one person's suggestion but hear me out, a training dummy. As you all know, there is a beyond massive litany of things that go into making a build flow, your defenses, your offenses, your flasks, everything, but one thing that makes it difficult to fully see how a build feels is the lack of a proper way to test it and fully see the numbers.

As it currently is, the only ways to get a full and proper showcase and the numbers that go along with it is through third party developers and programs like Path of Building. Personally, I like how indepth it gets in those systems, but my one hope is that maybe, we can get something a bit more accurate and tangible, something we can see in game to help us truly feel out our builds.

What I suggest is a training dummy, something that we can program to do certain actions but mainly just stand there and take damage so we can get proper testing for our builds, having it do small amounts of damage to test out our defenses as well, maybe having them die in quick succession to test out certain AoE functions like Pursuit of Faith for Hierophant or the Headsman damage increase for Slayer.

You can even sell MTXs where they are different mobs and bosses through the game, like Grigor, because who wouldn't want to endlessly beat the crap out of that jerk?

So what do you guys think yay or nay?

I think it's a basic necessity in a game as complex as PoE.

Torchlight 2 had dummies in town, iirc. It also had a dynamic DPS calculation system, so you could see your actual damage output using these dummies.

As for PoE, they could start by making every master give a training dummy alongside their crafting bench, and work from there. Give the dummies some sort of "total damage taken" and/or "DPS" counter and voila, you have your build testing grounds.

Potential improvements down the road could include the ability to change their life, resistances, modifiers, and adding presets like [Boss Name].

extend that idea to actually being able to fight boss "dummies" (no loot, no cost, no xp penalty) and you got something. your dummy level (i.e. as which bosses it can double) could be upgraded by doing missions or challenges (but NOT CURRENCY)

the dummy concept is a very good idea
since I have no hope for significant game design improvements in this game I am officially done with Path of Exile. done for good

Yeah, we should have gotten those ages ago. They should display avarage DPS over entire time player attacks/casts something on them, minimum and maximum DPS. Avarage high DPS and avarage low DPS would be useful too, when you have effects that aren't permanently on you (like that elementalist buff, what was it called...) and the like, but that's an extra.
They could come in 4 varieties - for white, blue, yellow and unique mobs.
I think Vagan, duellist master could be selling them from level 2 on for some small fee.

As soon as I read "training dummy" I immediately thought of Vagan. No, not because of that one mission he sometimes gives. Because he's a trainer. And a dummy. Not 100% sure on the trainer part.

*ahem* But I thought a mechanic like that shouldn't be limited to a certain master, since not everybody would have access to him in a temp league. And I'm not a big fan of selling them for in-game currency, or *shudder* as MTX.

Though I do like OP's suggestion about selling "skins" for them, which would give GGG a direct financial incentive to add this mechanic.

What you're talking about is a "training mode" which I think is a great idea that deserves it's own thread perhaps, but I think it's too ambitious for the dummies.

PS: "Dummy" is a fun word. "Dummies" more so.

YES! This, please! There's so many skills and skill intereactions in this game where the tooltip wont work at all, and even programs like Path of Building struggle with accurate (or any) useful DPS calculations. By all means please add this GGG, I beg of you...

Training dummy is a grand idea, it will help players truly test-out their builds
Good ideas!
