The Journey is Better than the Destination

So I set a league goal of getting The Squire, which I knew would be a stretch because I'm not extremely effective at currency generation. I don't run services, don't do end game crafting, and don't flip currency.
I really enjoyed the process and the work toward getting the shield even though every time I thought I got close to having enough currency, it would be worth more. I grinded A9 Sirus mainly and had a blast doing it. I know it's a widely panned fight, but I personally like it. Funny thing, I finally got it for 210 exalts...by far the most I've ever spent on a single thing. And now I feel like my league is done because I accomplished that goal. I actually don't really care about having the shield now that I have it. My friends are pretty psyched to play with it though, so it will still have some purpose. Oh well, maybe it's time for a break before the new league. Next league I think I'll avoid goals of a specific item. Thanks for all the fish! " Ironically one of the major reasons PoE is suffering from a retention standpoint, and highlights the absolutely dismal state of item looting. Nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to spend 3 months grinding currency just so they can pay someone else for an item they would like to try and use. Between paying someone else to find your gear, and crafting completely overshadowing 99.9% of drops, the entire point of a looter as a game model has been flipped on its head. It's been years now that GGG has acknowledged the loot problem, but if anything its worse now that it has ever been. Hell some of their league spoilers try to be funny with "you will never find this but.." . Its not charming or amusing anymore if you ask me. " You say nobody, yet I'm perfectly fine with it. So I can 100% say there is one person you are wrong about. I grinded the things that earned the shield. I don't view them differently. In fact, I enjoy that dimension, else the game would have to somehow find a way to make rare things available to everyone.....which means making them not so rare. Every bind on [whatever] game I've played I did not enjoy and eventually left largely because of that. The most recent example being D3. Thanks for all the fish!

The title of this thread is a good summary of video games in general and ARPG's in particular!

" Yeah, usually my goal is just something simple like 40/40 where you know what you have when you get there (not much). But the journey is always the fun part. The goal just gives you a reason for the enjoyable journey. Maybe I should set another goal. Although a break and seeing if D2R isn't so buggy still might be a good idea. I figure there is a month or so before 3.17. Thanks for all the fish! Última edição por Nubatron#4333 em 5 de jan. de 2022 18:17:09

" I dont believe you, but its your thread so I wont derail it further. I like the premise about the journey, but the payoff shouldn't be I paid someone else for the destination. " That's literally what this thread is about. I enjoyed earning the currency (and the things it took to earn it) that bought the shield. What did you think the journey was exactly? Thanks for all the fish! Última edição por Nubatron#4333 em 5 de jan. de 2022 18:27:31
