Tower Boss Dead after Death

Is the boss suppose to die if you die on the boss? Giant chicken boss was a corpse, map and fog reset after 1 death on tower map. I understand the "if you die on the boss, all of the content is wiped" but usually the boss doesn't die. I still had resurrects left.
