All supports get greyed out sometimes

Been getting this bug with skills sometimes (able to recreate it pretty consistently btw), where if I try to engrave a support all the options are greyed out with the tooltip claiming that "This support can't be socketed into this skill". I can engrave a support anyway and socket it into the skill, so the tooltip is definitely not correct, but it says that anyway, regardless of whether or not I can actually use the support gem with that skill.

I've noticed that if I look at the engraving possibilities for raise shield or fire skill on hit (playing smith of Kitava) then the engraving options aren't greyed out any more and I can even go back to the skill which had all the options greyed out and they won't be greyed out any more.
