Bugged life regen?

I am experiencing an issue with life regen on my ritualist. I equipped the Titanrot unique chestpiece while leveling which sets regen to 0, and I didnt like it much so I swapped back to a different chestpiece. Now I am permanently stuck with no life regen. I have triple checked all my passives and gear, nothing has a regen interaction or mechanic, and even unspecced and respecced into the life regen ritualist ascendency points. If I equip the Phoenix unique shield which carries 3% life regen, I am given this 3% but no extra and unaffected by modifiers.

This is pretty character breaking, and if I manage to finish cruel I am going to be DOA in the endgame. Please advise?

Unlike Mana, there is no inherent Life Regeneration.
If you have no stats granting you Life regen, then you will not have any.

The Ritualist passives do not give Life regen, they give Life recovery rate--which should increase your regen, assuming you had some.

When you equipped Rise of the Phoenix, did you still have Wildwood Persistance or anything else which would boost your Life regen or recovery rate?

This is correct thank you for clearing it up for me. Equipping the phoenix shield does show regen and it IS influenced by selecting the ritualist ascendency points for recovery. Was reading the ascendency info wrong and thinking of base regen on the first node I think. Thanks!
