Is this game supposed to be fun?

To preface, I've played POE 1 since beta if I recall correctly, when there was only one act. Last time I played I killed the Shaper, can't recall which league it was when he first appeared. I took up POE 2 recently.

My character has gear appropriate for his level, all are Rare. I have a build going (not much reached at this level 26) with proper nodes being taken, such as projectile damage, crossbow damage and reload etc. All the DPS I can get at this level.

1. My basic attack does more damage than my actual skill does, without any socketed support gems. My skill (Galvanic Shards) has two support gems that increase damage. Still the fucking skill does less damage. What's the point of even using a skill on a Crossbow? I tried different skills, same outcome every time.

2. Killing even a rare mob takes like 4-6 minutes. Killing even blue mobs takes a while.

Sorry but I gotta say, I have never had such a dogshit, boring and unfun experience in Path Of Exile. I don't understand how it can be this awful.

My beat guess is you are building your character long if it takes you 4-6 minutes. I don't remember having that issue with my Amazon when I was level 26. In fact campaign was smooth except for the Act 4 bugs.

Literally cannot build it wrong since I've taken the closest damage increasing nodes available. Anything else would lower my damage even further.

The problem is not with me, it's with the game. I already checked around the forum and Reddit and apparently Crossbow is just dogshit bad, probably the worst in the entire game.

If you don't believe me, go make a character. Pick Galvanic Shards, use any 2 support gems you like. Your basic attack -WILL- do more damage, even with 0 support gems.

Galvanic Shards is one of the better Crossbow abilities in endgame. Some skills in PoE2 are just very bad in the beginning. Also lvl 26 is a level range that's pretty bad imo. It's end of act2 -> mid act3 were alot of build can struggle if u don't get a decent weapon upgrade.

I'd try using some different ability for a while, maybe even use bow with lightning arrow until u get a good crossbow and try galvanic shards again.

Do not think of the basic/default attack the same as the default attack in PoE 1. In PoE 2 that basic default attack that costs ZERO mana is designed to be good. With the right support gems it can be extremely strong and is ideal whilst levelling.

Main skills can take a while to ramp up and be good. Galvanic Shards is good. But there is still a place for that default skill ;) Crossbow is not dogshit.

Yep it's the game..... everyone else who does it must be cheating. You not understanding something about a game as complex as POE that you literally just started playing obviously isn't an option. TLDR game sucks cause I'm bad at it

When player says it take 4-5 minutes to kill a rare boss, then blame the game...credibility = 0, 100% skill issue. I mean....you think default attack is stronger and you're mad about it, that's enough to convince me.

Exactly like I'm 95 and still use the basic bow atk w/ mana leech support sometimes if I'm doing something that drains mana

And conveniently, everyone else that does it is always using meta builds.
Yes, player skill and knowledge does play a part, but this game is balanced around the current league meta.You play anything else but the meta and you will feel the cracks in the system. Yes, even if it's doable on off meta, you still notice things that make no sense, and that should not be there.
