Returning player Ascendancy frustration
|
Mostly a rant, partly looking for any advice or help anyone may have.
I picked PoE2 up pretty much right as it went into early access. A few months later I had to set the game down for a few months due to work demands. I saw that there was a big update--and all the new ascendancies--and jumped back in. Then I realized my main character I had been playing was now broken. I made her when blood mage was the only reasonable option (going for the curse node) And in order to actually benefit from it, I paid for a carry to unlock the ascendancy. Now that node is on Lich, so blood mage is back to being actively harmful to the build. So I'm running around the new act with zero ascendancy points spent, because I can't switch over to lich since I have the max points. Its really infuriating that after coming back, so many changes are just... so disrespectful of time. Like, I received a a free total refund on skills. Would it have been so hard to just do that for the ascendancy too? Since you changed all of it? Anyhow, rant over. Anyone have any suggestions besides what I've been doing? (continuing to grind away without the ascendancy) In case it wasn't obvious, I'm just in standard league. Último bump em 20 de nov. de 2025 20:39:47

Most of us do not play standard. Very very tiny fraction of the players remain there.
You have like 4 months to play your characters. And usually this is it. Why? Because after 4 months your character may be completely useless after the new patch. Attribute stacker - dead. Spark sorc - dead. Amazon ls - dead. Can't wait for deadeye to die in 0.4.0. |

I understand why you might be frustrated, but at the same time, you've voluntarily opted-in to a beta-version of a game.
It seems a bit odd to not expect substantial updates and changes, including ones that might invalidate existing characters. |

I do understand that changes are expected. And really, I'm not bothered THAT things changed and broke.
My frustration solely stems from the fact they changed things in a fairly dramatic way, but didn't bother with an option to shift a character along with them without a great deal of effort. And yeah, this is mostly just a vent. I don't truly expect much different, but it's still annoying. |

Huh ? Didn't they change that at player's request a while back, and allowed people to change their ascendancy, as long as you pass the trials again ?
Or has it already been changed back ? And err, spark sorc being dead ? Not based on the couple maps i ran with a spark sorc only recently...

I think if you just rerun a low level trial you'll be able to respec the ascendancy. No harm in trying.

" If your build suxs and your gear also suxs in standard league, then i think it might be very difficult to rectify the character to make it powerful enough to play in an enjoyable manner. what do i mean by enjoyable manner? that means you can easily kill the white mobs and the bosses within 3 to 5 seconds before they kill you. The best way is to one-shot them within 2 seconds. repeatedly dying to the mobs is discouraging and not fun, hence it is better to kill all of them first before they kill you. in standard league, crafting is difficult to achieve good results because most of the bells and whistles in crafting would happen on season league instead of standard league. without the season league crafting, it is so difficult to craft good items. for example, in the current league, the desecrated crafting allows you to do deterministic craft on your weapons to achieve +6 to your skills. This is insane improvement to your dps which cannot be readily achieve in standard league. if you are infuriating now, then you will be even more infuriated later on because it is tough to play on standard league. 34pre98qua Última edição por stkmro#2432 em 20 de nov. de 2025 14:24:15

I guess I'm confused on why you can't change over to Lich... unless for some reason that isn't in "standard". That would seem really weird.
Doesn't matter how many ascendancy points you have. That just means you need that trial again and pick a different one at the alter. At most you have to have freed up the points first, but you seem to saying you have done that already. |

that sounds frustrating especially for players with limited time but it's hard to see any way around this with so many changes happening over time.
