Atlas skill book drop....after death

Was in an abyss depth and killed the last mob, which dropped the skill book, where I was immediately killed on respawn and the book is now gone. Doryani doesn't have the book, and I've killed other abyss end rare mobs with no book dropping. Am I actually cooked?
