Vaal temple Boss stuck

Entered a surgeon's ward and was fighting Xotolan, High Priest, and now the boss looks to have gone up the stairs, and I can not damage or see. When I attack, the health bar appears, and debuffs appear to be being applied. Since the boss is still alive, I am unable to leave the room and complete the rest of the temple.
