Difference between wand and 1h scepter

Other than the fact that wand is range and scepter is melee, is there any other thing the one can do while the other cannot?

Sceptres count as maces / hammers and can use glacial / infernal hammer, wands can't.
Dual wielded Quartz sceptres also stack their base bonuses, so you can get +40% elemental damage and two swings of glacial or infernal hammer. I only know about those things though because that's what my Templar uses. There are 3 types of 1 handed hammer, the highest physical damage one has +20% stun, the mid one +10% elemental damage, and the lowest one +20% elemental damage. Id say that wands are best suited to witches, and hammers for tempests. Look at the items and read their stats and info. Look at different skill gems and read their info. If you still can't tell the difference then you should just go a Groundslam Mara and leave it at that.

So as a ice spear witch, if i am willing to forgo my normal attack, i could go with 2 1h scepters as they give higher elemental dmg as compared to spell dmg on wands right?

" In addition to this: Just like Scepters there are certain abilities you can use with a wand but not with a Scepter like Power Siphon. There are quite a few Skills which get affected by the increased elemental damage but not by the spell damage simply because they are attacks, examples for this are named above. A wand is actually a great weapon choice for a Templar since Wand Templars have some great potential due to their easy access to important nodes. |

Later wands catch up with their inherent spell damage (up to 20% spell damage), but more importantly you are more likely to get wands that have additional spell damage and cast speed compared to scepters which tend to have more melee attack oriented mods. You shouldn't be having any trouble getting wands with +30-40% spell damage even at lower levels. |

I'm still hunting for a pair of lovely sceptres, ones with loads of bonus elemental damage, preferably cold, and bonuses to accuracy so my caster templar can still hit stuff, and triple linked slots. I want my Ice Nova linked to increased cast speed and increased AoE, and Frost Wall linked to Increased duration and knockback.
