As an update to this, I officially swapped to Deflection, works wonders so far - especially when dealing with those annoying suicide porcupine mobs or ranged physical bosses which we kind of have to either twitch-dodge or roll the dice on block chance and pray they don't crit on a failed block.

What the guide doesn't tell you, which I found out the hard way myself, is that having 5 support gems linked to Arc without good mana and mana regen gear will essentially neuter your effectiveness. Which is the scenario when leveling.

What I did to solve this problem was to remove one support gem and just sat on 4 total supports until my gear was up to par. In the meantime I used item rarity support as a filler, because it doesn't multiply Arc's mana cost upwards.

Did you still use clarity when levelling? i havent really taken it yet and im considering doing so and perhaps drop a link as well.

You totally should! Leveling with Arc is really fun, even if you spec into another build afterward. Once you know what you're doing, it's definitely more satisfying than another generic cdot build. I'd buy a level 1 20% Anomalous Arc to start with so you can benefit from the extra chain length early on. Grab an Atziri's Foible and equip it the moment your level is high enough, stack as much mana and regen as possible on your early tree and gear, keep your Clarity and mana flask(s) current, and drop all non-Clarity auras as soon as you get Archmage. Don't run MoM and Agnostic together until endgame, it's too hard on your mana pool with Archmage early on. I prefer Agnostic, but pick one of the two (MoM is better against one-shots).

Enki's guide is superb through the whole game and progression should be smooth into maps, so you shouldn't have to worry about doing anything specific (aside from capping resistances, of course).

As you reach endgame and have currency to do so, there are definitely some upgrades you can make outside of what the guide recommends that will yield big damage increases. PoB is unfortunately still fucked (won't export), so I can't share mine, but there are a number of people posting on here whose characters you can look at through their profiles or by importing them into PoB via their accounts. Because the build has a strong backbone and PoE is a beautiful game, there are virtually limitless ways to get creative, Nyangoro, Gimdornim, and Zarasi--among others!!--all have Heist necros that offer great examples of what to strive for. I fully admit I have departed from the guide's build in some ways and that some of my gear is definitely still jury-rigged, , so for reference only, here is what I am currently working with, including cluster jewels:

Finally got the enchant after a few lab run.



In other words, I freed up the slot reserved for desecrate. I put a Vaal cold snap in it. It is, as I have imagined, immensely fun. If you kill any enemy in the cold area it produces, it grants you frenzy charge with 25% chance. Even the Vaal version is useful. In boss fight without minions the only enemy you can kill is the boss itself. The Vaal version gives a frenzy charge every second when an enemy is in the skill area. Both cold snap and conductivity's area of effect get boosted by the shaper spell cascade mod. And finally, I think the corpsewalker gives you better corpse sustain. In the trigger wand setup the skills are used in sequence, so you cast desecrate every few seconds. With corpsewalker you'll just walk and spawn them. The downside would be losing yet another slot to build life/mana/resistance in this already unique heavy setup. But if you can afford it or are just willing to experiment with newest weird uniques you should give it a try. You can also put your other favourite active skill gems instead of Vaal cold snap.

edit. if you don't like cold snap, phase run seems to be another excellent substitute for mapping. I wish i could use them together to take advantage of the frenzy charge removal effect...

edit 2. frost shield is also okay I guess. We don't have ES so the health of shield will be low. At lvl 20 it's 910 health. But the cooldown is low enough that we'll be triggering it quite often, thereby gaining a new shield. Using Divergent quality we have 30% of damage taken from frost shield's health before our life while enemy is INSIDE of the shield, the rest of which then goes through another 50% from MoM/Cloak/Watcher's eye I guess(need to test it to confirm). If enemy is outside of the shield the damage absorbed is even greater, but then the shield might just break so it's not a huge difference. Not the best option for mapping since you'll always leave your frost shield behind. Maybe for bossing?

edit 3. Void sphere's cooldown is too long and doesn't really do anything useful. What a shame, since the mtx looks so cool.

Absolutely. Clarity is probably at it's highest value during leveling and when you are starting the endgame gear grind, because those are the parts of your progression you will really feel the pinch to your mana pool and will definitely need the extra mana regen.

That's because between taking damage and Agnostic+MoM converting your life into mana, you won't have a lot of mana left to cast Arc, especially if you have 5 dps support gems attached to it. That's also why the guide hints to the reader around your current state of progression to run two mana flasks in addition to not going Agnostic and MoM early.

I somehow cannot get used to being stuck in place casting for a solid second, I died a couple times thanks to it haha.

I managed to craft one yesterday and wish I had thought of it last league! Pretty convinced it's BiS. I didn't even know what to do with the free gem slot so I started running a Portal gem! (Awakened level 5 Hextouch would solve that "problem" for me, though.) Only catch is that those jewels are hella expensive. I managed to roll my own in fewer than 1000 alts, but I may have gotten lucky. But with Storm Brand, it's basically guaranteed Unnerve and Culling Strike with 100% uptime against Sirus, which is absolutely amazing utility (plus lets you just focus on getting gloves with solid core stats).

Nice! I've spent countless alts/regals/chaos and still haven't got it :) I'm considering just buying one so that I can free up one of the medium cluster jewel slots to experiment with other wild ideas.

Would this still count in endgame? In the pob enki has both MoM and Agnostic. Not sure what to think of that then.

How much mana regen should I aim to be able to spam Arc? I'm leveling the build rn (level 70), got myself the cloak of defiance 6links, the prophet crown and aztiri foible (plus enduring mana flask) and my mana regen per second is 774,1.

How much should i aim for in order to be able to spam arc a bit?

I have currently 3k5 life and 6k mana, when would you recomend to switch to the Agnostic node?

The best way to check would be to just spam it in your hideout, as it'll depend on other factors such as your cast speed. If you can sustain it, great; if you can't, but can sustain it for a good amount of time (such as 15 seconds or so) then that's fine too, as nothing outside of end game bosses would last longer than that, and you'll be forced to stop casting (therefore, regenerating mana) to move out of mechanics or during phase changes.

I've seen people sustain just fine anywhere from 1500 to 3500 mana regen; it just really depends on other factors (cast speed, whether you're attempting to run Righteous Fire, whether you're factoring in map mods, how hard you hit - therefore how much you need to keep casting, etc).

The switch to Agnostic is just when you feel comfortable with it. This is a mix of how you comfortable you feel playing the build (i.e. not getting hit a lot), your mana regen, when you really need it, whether you want to run RF quicker, etc. It's just a personal choice really, but just when you feel comfortable to do so.
