Mechanics thread

It would be nice to add to the OP some notes on reflect mechanics and overkill damage:

The ability to kill yourself on reflect has nothing to do with leech not happening for "overkill". The leeching code literally has no way to determine how much life the enemy has, it couldn't prevent leeching for overkill if we wanted it to without being rewritten to record that info when the damage is dealt. You can and do leech based on how much damage you do to enemies, regardless of their life.

Enfeeble affects the damage the cursed monster deals, not the damage you deal that's reflected to you.

Map mods that affect monster damage likewise affect their damage, not your damage being reflected.

If you're enfeebled, or there's a map mod affecting your damage, then that will affect your damage and thus the amount reflected back to you. But I'm pretty sure that's not what you're talking about.

hi, the mechanic thread says that IIQ is used for the number of items in a chest but does not mention if IIR is also used for the rarity in the chests.

***************************
quote : Increased Item Quantity
This modifier increases the average number of items that drop from monsters and chests. It does not affect the type, quality, or rarity of item dropped, only the chance that something will drop. There is no cap on the usefulness of this modifier, as monsters can drop more than one item at a time.
The base chance for an item to drop from a normal monster is 16%. This varies between monster types, and special monsters have higher drop chances.

When in a party, each player in the party after the first gives a +50% item quantity modifier on drops.

****************************
my 1st question : does the IIQ on my gear affect the chest or just the maps + quantity and the number of poeple in it?

my 2nd question : does IIR on my gear affect the chests also?

my 3rd question, does the IIQ and IIR gems on my attack affect the pots im breaking?

thank you

this question also made in general discussion

1. The only thing that affects chest drops is map quantity and party bonus.
2. Nope.
3. No, the gem specifically states "slain enemies".

Wondertrap unique boots and the new unique flask say "items found", but not sure if those items affect chests.

Q about reflect.
When damage gets reflected back at you, what damage type it counts as (spell, melee, projectile).
Also same question for thorns.

reflect = exact same time type(s) it originally was; reflect physical is still physical and reflect elemental is elemental and the specific element.
thorns = spell (and lightning and thus also elemental)

both reflects could be spell or attack depending on the skill that caused the reflect. like a rainbow damage (phys, 3 elements, and chaos) poison arrow attack hits a physical reflect mob, then just (18% of) the physical (that the foe actually took damage from due to thier armor) comes back at you as physical attack damage (which you can still reduce further by your own resistances).

Forgive me but shouldn't it be noted on the first page under "Chaos Damage" that it ignores armor?

Considering Armour only grants Physical Damage Reduction, that really ought to be obvious.

Is the "Less" damage from Multistrike and Melee Splash additive or multiplicative?

Say I do X damage, would it be 64% damage or 67.2%?

Increased and Reduced mods are additive.
More and Less mods are multiplicative.
