Different chances for 5 linking 6 and 5 socket chests?
Maybe (surely) its discussed here several times ....
Do you get the same chance for 5-linking 5 and 6 socket chests or does it differs? ty "better to simply go balls deep full retard if you gonna go retard." -Boem-

It does differ, based on the way sockets are rolled it is assumed that your chance to roll a 5L on a 6S item is better by a chance to roll 1 unlinked socket.
So, if the chance to roll an unlinked socket is 30% and your chance to roll a 5-link is 1%, then rolling a 5-link in either 5-1 or 1-5 configuration on a 6s item will be 1,3%. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Yes, from a kind of 'dice-view' it seems better to roll a 5 Link on a 6 socket chest because of this 2 possible configuration (1-5 and 5-1, as you stated).
But i just wonder, if that is the way it works? That way or maybe a 'hard-capped' chance for 5 link at all, that way i would be irrelevant how much sockets an item have, the chances for 4-link, 5-link etc. would be the same ..... Link configuration is supposedly rolled as a string of numbers. For instance, 2-1-4 would mean first two sockets are linked, then one would be free and then remaining three sockets would also be linked (because you run out of sockets you don't get four).
So, to get a 5L on a 6s item you would have to roll either 5-anything or 1-5, so if the probability to get a 5-link is A and for unlinked is B then total chance to get a 5L would be A + A*B (sorry, getting late so I can't go into more detail). " which would also explain why the vast majority of 6S-5L items have the bottom-right socket as the unlinked one... in that system it'd be a fair bit easier to roll a '5' as the first number in a sequence followed by an irrelevant number second (resulting in the bottom right being unlinked) than it'd be to specifically roll a '1' first then a '5' (or '6') second (resulting in the top-left being the unlinked). Even if it is just as easy to 5 link a 5 socket, it's ALWAYS better to 5 link a 6 socket in the hopes of getting a 6 link. You'll spend the same amount of money linking either way, but with a 6 socket you can get a 6 link with luck
Sure, the lab can be hard, but it's pretty easy if you're properly geared, and not terrible at the game.

" Exactly that :) If you would bother to check, say, a few thousand 5L items on poetrade, the amount of those in 1-5 configuration would tell you the exact chance to roll "1". Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I've never even seen a 5L with the top left socket unlinked. It's always the bottom right.
