3.8 Balance Manifesto is out (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2627116). To summarize, changes are:

1. Occultist ascendancy for the build remains unchanged aside from Vile Bastion (which we don't take anyway).

2. As I predicted earlier, they butcher Contagion a little bit, giving it less AoE. This skill no longer grants increased radius upon leveling up. Meaning this skill will not have radius +4 at level 20 or 21. However, this can be somewhat resolved with giving this gem max quality or higher than 20% quality for 10% increased area of effect, and speccing into increased AoE nodes on tree (Hex Master cluster for example), or spare a gem lot for increased AoE support/Intensify support to make Contagion work. Contagion's mechanics remain the same (as it should because if it no longer supports ED might as well just remove ED from the game). This will however hurt the ED/Contagion version of the build, the Bane/ED versions will do just fine.

3. No mentioning of Essence Drain being one of the most powerful skills in 3.7 that need adjustment. My guess is that not many people will run ED/Cont combo again in 3.8 as Contagion has been nerfed pretty decently hard and ED usually needs Contagion or else clear speed doesn't exist. (ED/Bane clears more slowly). This nerf alone already affects the clear speed of ED/Cont combo, however, I still think ED will receive around 25% dmg loss when Patch Notes 3.8 come out (in about 1 day). But if there isn't any nerf, then it's a good thing as well!

4. From the Manifesto itself, ""Clarity has also been changed to grant higher values of mana regeneration at higher gem levels. A variety of new passive tree clusters have been added, including one that improves mana and Arcane Surge, one that gives curse bonuses and a way to recover mana after hitting or killing cursed enemies, and one that grants Spell Damage based on your maximum mana, up to a limit."

- This is a great bonus for utility, at least we're still safe from having to use mana flasks because our mana regen will be better in 3.8.

- Curse bonus is also very great for this build guide (I guess what they mean is the increase in curse effects), we always need more of that, so that's some great news for our occultist, yay!

- More spell dmg from Arcane Surge and based on maximum mana, so this is pretty good too, I think it probably will make up for the potential dmg loss of Essence Drain once patch notes are out.

Other than that, nothing else very significant has been mentioned.

Yeah Bane/ED will be fine, clear speed will be a bit slower, but a 30% increased movement speed boots + a quicksilver flask to zoom zoom will be decently good, still. Also now that there are these changes, you can change Temp chain in Bane setup and add in Poacher's Mark for 3 frenzy charges like what I posted earlier, and free up 2 gem slots (Vaal Blight + Contagion) as well. Vaal Blight is a vaal skill and we don't use it very often as it needs souls. Other than some slight buff to chaos dmg and some slow that overrides spider stacks, it doesn't do anything else + 1 more button to press. I figure since we have 2 open gem slots we can now put in cwdt + any offering skill for corpse destruction to deal with porcupines and detonate dead effects from other things. I believe this is a well-rounded approach that patches up the last defensive hole in the build, making it no longer fear running any maps with said porcupines.

What is MINIMUM PoB ED\Bane DPS for Shaper\Guardian?

Played 2kk DPS Ranger, want to play ES\DOT Build.

OK patch notes are out. ED and Bane remain untouched (thanks to Contagion taking that hit). Makes sense because with the fall of Contagion ED just doesn't seem to exist anymore so even if its DPS is good, it's not gonna get used. This means that boss DPS will remain the same for these 2 gems, and probably better with other skill tree changes.

I think I want to leaguestart as this, is that possible? I wanna do ED-bane since I didn't play Bane in synthesis (I played soulrend). I'm rather beginnerish, is this build still good for me?

I see a few things I think about. Is ES reliable to leaguestart (especially as beginner perspective)? How would I go about this?

I read about another bane build that used Cane of Unraveling, and Vixen's Entrapment, which I think sound nice for the build. Are they expensive? Approximated price? Would they be good options to use as I farm to craft?

Is Low Life expensive? Shavronne's Wrappings aren't the cheapest right? Approximated price?

Is Vile Bastion a good node to consider?

Will this build and guide be updated rather early

lowlife is endgame setup u have to go for it Shavronne's are chep this days

1. Shav's wrappings is not gonna be cheap at league start.

2. There is quite some buff to Cane of Unravelling staff, so a 6L will cost exalts after some weeks in, and league start will be higher than that. But you can at least 5L it, but I'd say obtaining the more budget Short Bow is going to be better. If you use a staff, you're forgoing the quiver slot, which gives a lot of flat ES (Soul Strike quiver).

3. League starting is possible, and if ES items/gears are hard to obtain, the build can go life-based, even though that means forsaking some auras. However, ES is not in a particularly good state, so gearing will be cheaper than life-based builds. Remember, any builds that rely on certain uniques to shine will not be league-starter friendly as they usually need those unique items to really shine through leveling through acts and getting to high tier maps. Using as many rare items means you have leeway in what stats to pick (to cap resists) and what amount of ES to get.

4. Low life is the end goal so obviously it's not going to be obtainable with everything for just some dozens of chaos. It'll be in exalt-tier stuff if you want at least 9000 ES (which is enough for endgame but can still die in extreme situations/reckless play). The build itself is not a facetank build, so you need to understand the capacity of the build tank what and not to tank what. A cheaper option is CI, but this means the pathing on skill tree will probably be a bit different, as you'll need to path to a bit more offensive nodes to make up for a bit of dmg loss from low life. And whether this is worth it or not, I'm not sure yet because skill tree is not out, but it's highly viable.

5. We don't need Vile Bastion, which only benefits cold DoTs versions of Occultist. Withering Presence is the final node after completing Uber Lab.

6. The build is in progress of being updated (about 85% done). I'm a co-writer of the guide since 3.7, and I'm helping the guide creator finish up some other things.

i hope they will do anything with the bow/quiver problem. i really like 2h staff for style, but the bonus i can have from quiver is always good with no drawback. i can roll the same stuff on my bow, i really dislike this
