As Spectres I am running currently the Syncidate Operatives, before that Frost Autoscout. I also tested the mentioned new ones here from expedition, didnt like them at all.
Where do you find the Syndicate Operatives, and did you have to change any support gems for them? I'd like to give it a shot.

You can respec ascendancy 5 regret org per asc point. And change it to necro by runing normal lab.

If you're asking whether you can switch from Elementalist to Necromancer, yes, you can.
You have to unspec all your ascendancy points using Regrets and then run Normal Lab again. You should then have the option to switch ascendancy to Necromancer.

If you're playing in Standard, your character will probably get offered a full respec after the patch. I don't know what the rules for that are, but I've got the offer on all my Standard characters after patches that changed much less. At any rate I wouldn't spend any regrets until after the patch.

There are also alot of videos on how to do it. Gems are shown in the first page under the spectre section. You also want to convert it with Triad Grip to cold since they are phys based.

How is the syndicate operatives in comparison to the frost scouts? It says that positioning is important because you'll do 0 DPS if you are to close to the mobs? Is that frustrating? Is the upgrade to Syndicate operatives worth it?

Am I doing something wrong? I have EE and armageddon brand with hextouch and frostbite and I often see enemies that are vulnerable to lightning and resisted to cold. I'm using it all the time.
