I am also confused about the physical damage mechanics change. I was under the impression that physical damage from items would have been considered "base" physical damage and always be multiplied by increased percentages.
Does this mean that prior to the patch, an iron ring for example would have only added 1-4 damage to your total damage? That was it?

That is exactly what it means. Prior to this patch, added physical damage from rings, amulets, uniques, etc. was not affected in any way by any damage increases. It was simply added as-is to your final damage number. You can check it yourself. Go in-game and equip/unequip an iron ring. Your tooltip damage will only change by 1-4.

And now with this patch, whats the new equation that equals how much damage the ring will actually add?

WRONG
These damage are affected by "increased physical damage". Get a rustic belt and equip/unequip and you'll see the difference. Non-weapon base physical damage is NOT regarded as "weapon physical damage" or "melee physical damage" and not affected by any bonus related to "weapon" or "melee".
However, they can be converted to elemental damage by certain skills (lightning strike for example).
I think after this patch, non-weapon base physical damage will be regarded the same as weapon physical damage, as what elemental damage does now.

So...does this patch actually increase the damage offered by Flat rate damage...or was I being mislead as to what this patch actually meant? lol
Kinda wish a dev would pop in and just give a yes or no :P

So if i read the melee patch part right...and going by what was said. Flat + damage just got a massive boost right?
As in..rings that add damage etc, just became a whole lot dirtier? xD
As a facebreaker build..i wildly accept this, But how does this effect % based damage, like say the magnate belt? Did that to get a massive boost?
Only off-weapon flat phys dmg gets a boost. Not %phys dmg or any ele dmg.

So rings/ammies/megingord/Bringer of rain kinda stuff are getting a significant boost?
Cool, thisll be fun ^^
