Best Crit Sword Build? Scaeva Unique Sword

I found this new sword added to the game while looking for upgrades on my lacerate in psc.

Not sure how the crit works on this thing but it adds a lot of crit close to as if it was a base crit of 10.

I'm just wondering what builds could be really strong with a slow attacking crit sword?

I want to try cyclone but the sword isn't a foil base so it has really small aoe. I don't feel it'll be great for this sword but I'll test it at some point.

Other options that I can think of are reave / lacerate / flicker / shield charge?

Anyone got any better ideas?

Conditional modifiers can never be local modifiers.
TBH I'm really not sure how the crit on this sword works exactly the math is really close either way. The main point is it's a really solid crit sword for crit builds.

If you have 300% increased crit chance from gear/tree, then:

If the mod is global, you'll have 5.9 * 4.75 = 28.0% chance to crit

If the mod is local, you'll have (5 * 1.93) * 4 = 38.6% chance to crit

Looks like a pretty noticeable difference to me!!

Main issue I had with doing the math is I had to add all the stuff up from in game
so I rounded a lot of stuff.

it's not a global crit mod like the global crit mod you'd get on a dagger.

The math on it I believe is like this note that the global crit I have is rounded

(base weapon crit after bonus) * (Global Crit tree/gear) * (crit chance in main hand)

so in my case 5.9 * 4 * 1.75= 41.3

This is only 1% off from what I have in game so it's probably how it works I think?

If it was effecting the base crit the math would look like this I think.

(base crit of weapon) * (local crit increase) * (global crit)

so again 5 * 1.9 * 4 = 38 So yeah that checks out to be not the case probably

To be honest both totals where fairly close to each other so when I was just estimating...

Another way to look at it is take the base crit * crit when in main hand when you look at it that way it's kinda like it does have a base crit chance of 10. On that note I believe a perfect rolled one of these swords would have 11 base crit effectively.

Man it's way to hot out for math -_-

So,

1. You have equipped Scaeva in your Main Hand
2. You are certain beyond any shadow of a doubt that your Global Critical Strike Chance increase is exactly "300% increased" - including Increased Critical Strikes Support, Power Charges, rings, etc.
3. You are certain beyond any shadow of a doubt that you have no additional base critical strike chance (i.e. from Increased Critical Strikes Support)
4. Your Character Sheet does not show 38.6% or 28.0%*

if all 4 are true, something's gone horribly wrong, and you have an absurd bug.

If 1-3 are true, and your character sheet shows approximately 38.6%, then the mod is local, and this is one of the rare occurrences where Vipermagi is (implied to be) wrong.

If 1-3 are true, and your character sheet shows approximately 28.0%, then the mod is global.

The most likely way to interpret these events, given I have no Scaeva to test with, is that you are missing some external source of critical strike chance (such as Increased Critical Strikes Support, which grants base critical strike chance), i.e. 2 and 3 are not true.

Calc with level 20 ICSS:

(5+1.9)% * (1 + 0.18) * (1 + 3.00 + 0.75 + 0.88) = 45.8%

*True calcs, as the game would do it based on all existing information we have, with no rounding

5% * (1 + .93) * (1 + 3.00) = 38.6%
5.9% * (1 + 3.00 + 0.75) = 28.025%

You can always think of the sum of all local (x% increased critical strike chance) on a weapon a "x% more critical strike chance," because there is no source of local critical strike chance other than on the weapon itself.

This doesn't hold true when you consider things like the increased critical strikes gem, which effectively adds to the base crit (but isn't multiplied by the local critical strike chance - is it?).

The OP's character are available to view. It looks to me like the total is 301% increased; 275% from the tree plus 26% from the amulet. The character is a Slayer called 'ClamityKnightz'. No Inc crit strikes or anything. All we're missing is a screenshot of the crit chance on the character sheet.

------------------
Edit: actually it's 330% if you count the 29% from Ice Golem; not sure if the OP was counting that though.

Can confirm it is a local stat on Scaeva Gladius when equipped in main hand
I find that hilarious if true because I swear GGG called this a bug and declared it fixed in a patch note. Well, maybe I dreamed that up, but if I didn't, I get this image of GGG devs scrambling to patch up this hole in their code where, in a game like D3, it could be seen as totally intentional.

Btw, I consider things like ICSS and Assassin base crit as part of the "local modifier" which is why I said "sum of all local modifiers." I think. It's been a while since last post. I don't know if that's technically true (i.e. if GGG has an internally defined category of local vs global and base crit other than from weapon counts as global) but for all intents and purposes (i.e. calculations) it is fine for me to think of it that way.

I tested it out as well, item only costs 1c so it's easy to test.

Using these two weapons, on an occultist with crit nodes, but no increased base crit or weapon-specific crit nodes:

Scaevea in off hand gave 15% crit chance on basic attack. Brightbeak (same base crit chance) gave 15% crit chance on basic attack. (I took screenshots so can post them if needed.) So I must have 140% increased critical strike chance for basic attack on that character. (This matches my passive tree - 20% from occultist travel node, 30% from snowforged, 90% from shadow crit nodes, no attack crit chance on gear.)

Scaevea in main hand gave 23.64% crit chance for basic attack. If it was a global mod, it should bring it up to 212% increased, which would be 19.5%. If it was local, it should bring the base crit of the weapon up to 9.85%, and the full crit chance to exactly 23.64%.

So yeah, confirmed it's a local mod.
