Thanks for posting this build. I played as a Fire Trapper Templar many many leagues ago and have been thinking about using the skill again, so I'll give this a try!
I do have a few questions... 1: Any particular jewels you would suggest with this build? Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any listed. Any benefits to Cheap Construction? Hair Trigger? Unstable Payload? 2: While I definitely see the benefits of Cospri's Will, what do you think about Tinkerskin? Good armor [with Iron Reflexes], has life, generates frenzy charges, has built in phasing and recovers life and shield from trap detonation. " Thanks for the message! I hope you enjoy it! 1: Jewels: Jewels are very good for this build. Add them anytime you find a great one. Health, Burning Damage, Fire Damage, and Trap Damage are the biggest mods (obviously). As this build focuses on the Ignite and DOT of Fire Trap, try and make sure the damage mods don't only affect the hit of the trap (though I can't think of any). 1a: Cheap Construction: The reduced trap duration is nice, but I don't find it more valuable that than a moderately rolled damage jewel. The time it takes for Fire Trap to trigger isn't really an issue for me when I play this build. 1b: Hair Trigger: The Trap Damage is great but the Trigger AOE isn't valuable. It doesn't effect the size of the damage's AOE, just the trigger area. As you play through this build, you'll notice that you're traps will trigger right away. If you're going for jewels, you'll have better options with rares that drop. 1c: Unstable Payload: Awesome jewel, but not for the focus that I have on damage. Feel free to modify the tree anyway you like, but I focused on the Ignite and DOT of Fire Trap, not the hit damage. So the trap exploding an additional time will only benefit the damage of the trap that I ignored. (The changes that GGG are discussing for Fire Trap in 3.3 sound like it'll match up with this gem very nicely.) 2: Tinkerskin is awesome. WAY better than Cospri's Will for this build. The only reason I use Cospri's Will is for the Hexproof enemies. If you get rid of Cospri's (which is simply a personal favourite of mine), feel free to reconsider the value of Iron Reflexes. Just remember to avoid Hexproof roles on endgame maps. Also, I love all the trap uniques. They are great! Feel free to modify this build anyway you like. For those of you that are interested in using this build for 3.3 in a few days, it'll be changing quite a lot. When GGG changed the Occultist's tree in 3.2...it fit my idea for this build perfectly. I LOVE Curses. I love an easy Fortify too. So I tried to play the trapper as it was for 3.1, as the Duelist...but for all of 3.2 all I could think about was curses and lowering enemy life regen (Occultist). Now with the changes coming to Fire Trap in 3.3, though they turn the skill into a cast more than a DoT trap (with the reduced duration), the benefits Occultist brings to my style of play are too difficult to reject now.
So I'm sorry for those that use this character in standard mode, but The Best Fire Trap Build That Will Ever Exist Ever (undebatable ;)) will now be switching to the Witch Class with quite a different gem layout. I would also like to make my builds not dependant on any uniques as well, and Occultist helps greatly with that. If you have any questions regarding this post or this current build (3.2) please feel free to ask.
