Maybe some pretend to be AFK if not wishing to trade for item(s). Some people just prefer actually being asked if they are ok with it first.
I certainly do not think people like to have their face eaten by a bear.

I work on the assumption that 3/4 people will not respond (even if item posted 30 seconds ago) so (subject to avail) i just copy->PM->repeat until i either reach the bottom of the poe.trade list or someone replies.

doesnt really work for rare items, but common uniques you want to Vaal, skill gems etc.

Staaaahp. We all learn to pretend to be afk at like 3 years old when your parents come to see if you're taking a nap.

I am guilty of this, but only when I get swamped with buy requests for the same item. That generally means I missed a 0 or pressed the wrong currency.

I wont bother responding to those whispers just the same as I wont expect a reply from someone who I whisper who seems to be in a similar position. (Doesn't mean I wont try my luck though.)

Otherwise, its down to area switching in high focus places like lab. If /afk actually persisted then I would use it but as it stands I refuse to use /dnd because so many of my friends rely on whispering me for help with builds or item info.

I think that's what GGG considers "old school". No conveniences of any sort + poor to none modern game features. GGG thinks "Trading is high priority" but then "trading? We don't need no trading search and easy trade... we don't want no stinkin in-game search and easy trade function!"

Why the Jekyll-Hyde take on PoE trading? As long as it's not a full blown auction house to trivialize getting better gear (only need to farm fast clear and safe maps for currency) then some form of asynchronous trading (that Chris had talked about many years ago as "coming soon") is justified and needed. I'm sick of the whole no response from sellers all too often and to be a seller we must camp in PoE 24/7 to respond to buyers.

GGG needs to code a small app for smart phone that can alert sellers that we have a buyer and the app can connect to our PoE stash so that we can invite the buyer and make the sale all in the separate independent app that will not require stopping our mapping or lab run or whatever we're engaged in.
