UI Arrangement
You have to admit though that that gw 2 layout is pretty clean and nice. However I still love the ARPG layout.

the UI should be completely customizable. Each bar and whatnot should simply be a window you can drag around and lock into place. Provide 2-3 different layouts and a set of customs.

" Yes and no. It is a very clean UI although it is a bit cluttered. I never played GW2 so I don't know what all those different icons specifically mean or do. I can gather that they're probably skills or abilities but really it just needs to be better organized and arranged. Similar icons should be grouped, etc. Plus, it would be nice to have a small border going around that with a solid background to provide some contrast with the game world. Forum Sheriff

Its mainly just buffs/debuffs and hotkeys. Also maybe just the option to drag and resize the UI elements leave it to the user to decide then everyone is happy.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

One more idea to throw out there:
Health and mana as semicircles around the feet of the character, possibly synchronized with the direction the character is facing. Pros*: - Right there in the middle of the screen by definition, so easy to see. - Doesn't obscure the character or the action around them. Cons*: - May be blocked by the character model, leading to players not being sure of their health or mana, if facing a certain direction. - May break immersion (so, make it optional?) for those used to an entirely separate HUD. - Devs may want to do something else with that space (Diablo II put auras there, and devs might have something similar planned). *...that I can think of at the moment. (Edit: formatting) I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

I think it's just best that player could customize his screen how ever he wants. You want your skill bar to be at one side? you move it there ,you want it to be at the bottom you just drag it to the bottom and here you go.That way players could choose what's best for them.
Repent! That's what i'm talking about!

True Nox was a good game. I liked the UI of it too almost steampunk.

I think UI's in games like this aren't a real problem. I mean, you have what... the health/mana pools, potion slots, and skills?
So...12 things or so? Can't imagine it getting to cluttered. I personally like D2's look though, which is good, because PoE looks very similliar. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

Another option is a skinning API. I program C# and I'm sure others program. A simple UI plugin that could be written using an API would allow players to make their own UI mods using interface data, as they see fit.
presets are very limited, although a completely customizable UI would suffice... I also like the ability stated above to be able to resize UI containers in addition to moving them. If you have account problems please Email Support
