[3.1] GLADIATOR 1H+Shield Max Block&Spell Block Tank + a BoR version
" It's quite simple when you do the math behind the legacy/non-legacy: say you have 10k armour, which is what you should have with this build even with crappy gear. Non-legacy Aegis will recover 2% of that 10 000, which is 200 ES per block. Legacy Aegis will recover 4% of 10 000, i.e. 400 ES per block. The difference may not seem much, and in most cases, you wouldn't notice it since you have 78/78 block/spell block with this build anyway - you'll almost always be on full HP. But in some minor cases where you're encountering huge spikes in damage, that extra ES might help. Hope that clarifies it. 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

" Np, I gladly answer all questions. It's not that bad, no. In fact, EQ was so good that even after the nerf, it will still be one of the best melee skills - anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't understand melee. The only difference now is that Ice Crash, Reave and some other skills are comparably good. Overall, though, melee is still not as fast as ranged/spell builds, especially not 1h RT melee builds such as this one. You'll be tanky as fuck and be able to facetank most content with this build, sure. But any LA/TS Deadeye or Flameblast Elementalist will beat your clear speed (not to mention Vaal Spark Inquisitor). 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

Hey Serge, thanks for answering my question earlier.
Did you update the skill tree for BoR for 2.4 as well as the standard one? Thanks |

Do you have this build as axe version, I'm really interested to run it with a Soul Taker, should I?

" It's also a very good option. Just swap the mace nodes for the axe nodes, nothing else to it. 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

what gems would you recommend for BoR version since the armour is missing? Im thinking of starting BoR first since its cheap and then transitioning to your normal build. Thanks for such a great guide.

Hiho! New player here, only started 3 weeks ago so bear with me :)
I made a similar build as my first character, with the exception that at the free atlas character reroll I changed to a skill build to support Varunastra (with BoR). Which was nice, and easily blasted my way through tier 1 to tier 10 maps, but as I was getting higher I began to feel squishy. I feel that Aegis could do way more work with a different setup and I could definitely improve my hp. So right now I'm thinking about picking up a truckload of regrets to spec into maces and Doryani's (picked up a nice high roll earlier already), which would spare me a load of skill points since I have picked up Deadly Dilettante and the marauder Axe axis for Varunastra (also went to marauder through scion). That would obviously lead to more points to work on defenses. So my question is, how is Doryani's dps compared to Varunastra? With Varunastra I have 39k (EQ) atm no charges/blood rage/whatever just standing in ho with Hatred/herald of Ash. I suspect that Doryani should be close on tooltip dps, but an even higher portion of it would be elemental than with my current setup. Wich leads to the second part of my question: how are the resists of endgame mobs compare to their physical mitigation? Would I lose or gain on the effective dps side of the trade? Also I made a fairly crappy 6L astral plate with some resists and 1700 armor (no life). Would the dps increase because I could level melee physical/faster attack supports even though I'd lose the damage from BOR? The armor upgrade would be nice, would lose out on the sweet hp bonus and blind support of BoR though Sorry if my questions are noobish, and thanks for the nice writeup on the build! I don't think you'd lose much DPS, but the again I can't be sure. You can only try to know 100% :)

What about Hematophagy?
for 3 points we get 2,2 % phys attack dmg life leech (0,6+0,6+1) 20% increased dmg while leeching rather nice, no? we can drop 3 damage nodes, so we will lose some dmg but get nice leech and near same dmg as before while leeching. You have forgotten your place, Karui slaaave!
