The difference is that Adds x to x lightning damage adds it to the weapon. While x to x lightning damage to spells adds the damage to arc.

not entirely true for non-weapon items at least, if it just says "adds x to x lightning damage" and nothing more on say gloves, it will add damage to your arc spell, like my gloves for example:

these DO work with the spell, and is a delve mod you can get from fossils for example, however when it says "adds x to x lightning damage to attacks" it will not add damage to the spell but to the "weapon", easily checked in Path of Building or just ingame dps tooltip :P

all good suggestions, in this league and with this dangerous metamorph bosses I would recommend also taking a look at "cleansed thought" and "aspect of stone" anointments, cost a bit more but are quite strong, cleansed thought gives double chaos resist, so whatever chaos resist you have is doubled, and aspect of stone gives 20% chance to avoid physical hits, imo could be a good choice compared to 30% crit multi and so on :d

Thanks for the suggestions. I agreen we already have enough crit chance in the passive. Its also hard to get chaos resistance especially needed to beat one of the Exiles (always die) and physical damage avoidance is always good. I hope not to die so much.

True, but golden oil is going for 1.2 exalt at the moment, compared to a handful of chaos for the others. There are quite a few upgrades you can make before crafting an amulet that you only really need for the evil green snake-charmer.

Not saying I won't end up making one myself eventually, and everything is relative, but I'd file it under "high-budget gear" and not a recommended standard anointment.

just wanted to say this is the best build and instructions for beginners i have come across, really well done thanks!!!

How I understand it, there are basically 4 possibilities:

- Adds x to x lightning damage to attacks (no matter where)

Will do exactly that and work only for either skills from gems that are categorized as "Attack" or the default attack. I think it doesn't even matter if you have a weapon in this case. You could bareknuckle a monster and it would work. It'll also add the damage globally to any attack - when dual wielding for example, it wouldn't matter with which weapon you swing.

- Adds x to x lightning damage to spells
Will do exactly that and work only with skills from gems categorized as "Spell"

- Adds x to x lightning damage (on a weapon)
In this case, the lightning damage will be local. It will only be on that weapon. So it'll only work for attacks done with said weapon. When dual wielding for example, you'll usually alternate between main and off-hand weapon. Only the weapon with this mod will have the added lightning damage.

- Adds x to x lightning damage (anywhere else than a weapon, e.g. a ring)
In this case it's going to be global and add said lightning damage to anything. Attacks, spells... it doesn't matter.

Hi guys,
Really liking the build, played it in the past and also liked it then. Just like the classic fantasy of being an arc mage. One question though: I've read through many comments and am pretty unsure whether this build is end game viable (not blaming enki or anything - he never said it is the best build ever or something). Do you think I can go all the way here? If you do, I'll gladly invest more currency into the build, please tell me what I can upgrade!


If you think rerolling would suit my expectations better, I will just reroll this character. What is the best (in the way it can really do ALL bosses) build for the witch right now? Is there maybe even a mine variant or something that I can make out of this? Have played this game a little but it is still so incredibly complex. I have read through some of the necro and occultist builds here as well, but can't quite decide which route to go next. I just need a guide that tells me what to do, I just don't have the time to study this game in a way to actually make decisions on your own (that work in endgame I mean - and this is coming from someone who already sacrificed a lot of time into watching guides about everything, but there is endless information about everything).
