Portal and Identify Scrolls - Do we really need them?
I'd be happier with a more streamlined game play.
Doing whats been done before is safe, sometimes in this case it feels too safe and too redundant. Just my opinion |

I agree with OP, or you make them more useful or simply remove them, this is perhaps the only thing I liked on D3

Removing wisdom scrolls ends trading of unidentified items, leaving the economy less robust as a result.
Removing either cuts out some key earlygame tension, and would have strongly negative effects on events. Removing both results in no baseline currency for low levels to trade with high levels (as orbs will generally be used to improve the low levels character, and are also likely to be much of what the noobs / low levels are looking to trade for). I do think scrolls in general could use a reduction in drop rate, especially at higher difficulties. IGN: KoTao

One of my favorite things about this game is the economy. And while I wouldn't be opposed to seeing individual bits changing as long as it keeps the same overall feel, I get the feeling you would all end up feeling the same about anything that replaced them.
Would you really rather just have tons of Shards of Transmutation? However, I personally love IDing stuff. I didn't think I'd miss it, but that was definitely something I felt was lacking in D3. And the argument that "I don't ID all my blues because I don't want to waste the scrolls" as an argument to get rid of scrolls just seems like a silly one. That's the point of it being a currency. But, on the whole, if they lowered their drop rate, and maybe raised the drop rate of armorer's scraps/whetstones a bit, I think that'd be fine too. The scraps and stones make a really interesting type of currency because they've got a decent effect, vs just letting you port home or ID something. |

Today my char challenged Merveil in Merciless and was killed 13 times. That was very fun since I am quickly running out of my tp scrolls and I cannot imagine if the game removes it fully.
And the ID scroll is also a must for me, simply because I enjoy the moment of finding out what I really get. Also this game has made good use of unidentified items to build its economy system, I won't like to see it ruined. |

I think these scrolls are a must have. They keep the economy robust. They also force the player into making decisions on what to pick up and what to abandon. They force us to think about what to identify. Whether to use a town portal or to slog it the nearby waypoint.
If I wanted streamlined, I'll go play D3, thanks. Última edição por ac429#4687 em 27 de mai. de 2012 13:53:45

I would happily dump identify scrolls for click and wait, and give scrolls of town portal a short cast time to prevent portal cheesing for flask resets on bosses like merveil

I have never liked TP scrolls or ID scrolls, they serve as a means to punish new players and little else. I think they should be removed.
Why I need to wait an extra 5 seconds to see what an item does... is beyond me. If you still want items to come unidentified, fine, have the player click on an item to identify it. You can still keep your "robust" economy, without putting in a mechanic that has little use. " The problem isn't with the scrolls, it's with the system, that seemingly does punish new players more than anything else. The problem is then that the scrolls hold little value at high level due to their necessary abundance. With no real intelligent solution on the horizon (as drop balance doesn't seem to be viable,) I agree that the D3 system is superior. In order to salvage the system, they need to have alternative value more like orbs. They also need to be useful in abundance. The solution? Only one I can think of... no limit gambling with scrolls. Perhaps even put up a global item to win... display its properties, and make it ultra rare... or even unique. Let players blow their scrolls in unlimited quantities.
