The key to understanding PoE may be that is it not made for the same players as Diablo 2

I am sorry, but D2 was very much designed with trading in mind. I still have yet to find someone who can prove otherwise.
I was alternating between D2 and the Hell Unleashed mod for about a year and a half before I started playing PoE. My friends and I played the Hell Unleashed mod because it was everything we loved about D2, but so much more punishing. It was what we wanted from D3. Of that group of the four of us, my roommate and I have been playing PoE since OB, while the other two played through most of Anarchy until their comps crapped out. We all love this game for one basic reason: it's similar enough to D2 to be very familiar, but different enough, in all the right ways as far as we're concerned, to be engaging and exciting. This game is not automatically for everyone who played D2 just because they played and enjoyed D2. Rather, this game offers something to a subset of D2 players that other ARPGs are not. D3 offers something to a different subset, while TL2 appeals to another subset, even though multiple subsets can be applied to the same player.
I play dual totems. I like dual totems. DoubleDildos all the way.
Is OP implying that the now grown-up fans of D2 have more time to play compared to when they were kids? What the actual fuck?

You couldn't be more wrong imo. Trading for massively duped and botted items made end-game builds achievable in the first place. Without trading you were fucked.

Yo did some guy just say D2 was not all about trading? hahahaha what the fuck

haahahahahhaha AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Dupes
Dupes
Dupes

Dupes is what made the economy fucking flourish It's how most of us D2 vets were successful BY trading.

FOR trading.

Sure i did.

The first assumption is that people are interested in playing games.

The second is that they as grown up are masters of their own time to a greater degree

--> Voila!
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.
Level 85 / 82 / 78 in Nemesis, Full time jobb, wife and a baby on the way.

Yet i manage to find time.

Weird world we´re living in. Random dull people belives they got less time then others.

Afaik, you are given 24h at the start of the day like everyone else. Appart from some variables that will gibb you, you still got enought time to play computer games.

Notice how I said 'early Diablo 2'. In later patches trading, duping, RMT were prevalent and that ruined the game in my opinion. Later patches are also the reason why PoE and D3 were designed with trading being so big in acquiring items. D3 tried the auction house/RMT and realized it's not the way to go so they are changing, PoE is about 18 months behind so next year the same realization will be made by GGG. The only hope is that they have enough of a player base left to fund the changes.
to be completely honest i played d2 around when it came out my dad got it and let me play.
back then games scared me so i can nvr have those type of feelings again but i played d2 untill about 4 years ago off and on but a good 8 years was solid all day every day playing.once i grew up diablo became more of a thing i could play continuously for years and still have goals or things i havent done and thats what i get from path of exile. but one thing that i love more about poe then diablo 2 is how the devs treat ther fans and how they allow u to invole yourself with there games history.

100% the game for me

got to be good looking because im so hard too see.

Yeah but I don't know how that results in adults having more time to play games. Work, wife and kids, other responsibilities... As a kid I had all the time in the world to play games. School usually went from 8 AM to 3 PM and after school I barely had anything to do so I played a lot. People who work a typical 9 to 5 and have family can only play around 2 hours a day.
