ya i myself am now positive that you can have more than 20 pods. i don't have video of it nor will i take any, but you can notice just in the dps done.

just for context, i regularly have 8.4 attacks per second, and mirage archer on top of that, equaling approx 12 attacks per second.
but once i get an acceleration shrine, shit becomes unreal. the dps goes through the roof. so yes maybe the pods do disappear for performance reasons but im certain you can get more than 20 active damaging pods at a given time.

It has nothing to do with more pods, it is because you place them faster thus making the first ones explode more. I'm watching and saving video have yet to see more than 20. In fact one post recommends less duration not more.

It has everything to do with more pods. more pods=more chaos dot. Pods exploding more and faster has nothing to do with your dps unless you go the physical damage pod exploding build route. With quillrain you don`t want the explosions of the pods. You want the dot before the explosions. Less duration=less chaos dot duration=less stacks. Less duration could be viable if yo go the physical dmg build with high phys dmg bows. Then you do want the explosion.
I don`t know which variation has more dps tho.

More explosions = more poison stacks as well. Don't forget that.

The only one point which is not right is that you claim that 7 pods=1 CA , but as you can see on your animation on front page, there is max 4-5 pods hitting your main character when you aim at it . All the pods spread and it is pretty hard to get 3-4 pods on top of a moving target. So you need to take account also the time you shoot twice to get your 7 hits. It is not about the number of pods but about how fast you can stack them.

The animation is at 3aps, without GMP, dying sun and any other projectile modifiers. Indeed it would be near impossible to stack a lot of pods on top of single mob. This is where my whole doubt about DoT stacking started. But with Nature's Reprisal and APS it's definitely possible. More than possible even.

OK guys here's an update. I reformatted the original post after massive amount of feedback, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
First of all: pods actually can exceed 20 limit, there can be 30..40.. whatever amount.
Second important thing: it takes just ~7 pods for TA to reach the CA numbers with comparable setup.
Take a look at the picture

So i was somewhat wrong indeed that DoT scaling is not worth it. It's definitely worth it if you want to invest into it. Esecially with Quill Rain. Even without increased duration/skill effect duration it's just 7 pods to do CA damage.
The pods will not explode in 1 place and will not sit on top of each other, as well as the mobs will not permanently be stunned in one spot. But even with all that in mind it is safe to assume that DoTs are to be considered as a good damage dealer, especially with Nature's Reprisal.

I also added pure DoT skill setup 6L as well.
Another change is: added chaos in a 6L. I realized that added chaos adds a lot of damage to poison stacks as well as to total dps. Of cause we lose some DoTs, but they are still there. At the same time we get crazy amount of poison and huge dps boost with potential to chaos scaling.
What i want to achieve in this build is a balance between DoT, explosions and poison stacking.

This confirms my previous ideas too, poison deals significantly less dps compared to the chaos aura around the pods. As it is poison deals roughly 15% yhe dmg of the dot. That is with you as pathfinder. As trickster poison came to be around 10%. Building for the dot is much easier and rewarding unless you get a high phys bow with +3 skills and insane ias; that will most probably cost upwards to 10ex+

Makes me think that for the purposes of scaling just TR damage, pathfinder isn't the best choice. Neither is trickster, or occultist... it's Deadeye.

You get 50% AoE from endless munitions, plus an extra arrow = pod. Furthermore, You also get extra ASPD from Tailwind. And since it's a unique modifier, it scales Quill Rain to insane levels = dot stacking for days. Far Shot works with RoA, so it should work with TR as well. And Blink Arrow on 2s CD works surprisingly well - Blink, stack, blink, stack.

Squishy, though. And needs some extra poison chance to keep up permanent 40 virulence. But tbh, I'm not very impressed with the crawler anyways.
i personally went raider. avatar of the chase and frenzy charges.
i'd agree that pathfinder is not the way to go if you want the DoT scaling. it is the way to go if you want to do something with poison/hit effect, however. (damage wise anyway).

i'd also say if you're going for the DoT route, do not even use herald of agony. its a bunk skill unless you are really trying to focus poison. its AMAZING for leveling up, but its damage doesn't scale into late game even on a fully supported agony crawler.

ya im really curious what is better, a +3 bow or quill rain, for toxic rain specifically. but to get one of those delve bows would be....well probably not worth the increase in damage over quill rain for the increase in price, lol

For toxic rain Quill Rain beats even a very good +3 bow. The DoT is slightly less, but since you plant pods twice as fast.. well. .
Pathfinder is all-around good class for nearly everything. It's pretty hard to go back to raider after you taste this 100% flask uptime.
Another thing that i wanted to test are Virulence and poison. They really synergize well with HoA

Nice, ok , so pathfinder for herald of agony :)
Any suggestion on how to get as much profit as possible from the "Master toxicist" passive which is a great buff to the poison damage while using Quill rain + Toxic rain combo? I assume poison would better scale with a high phys dmg bow, but I think we have decided that Quill is a BIS for this build.
How to handle mana pool problems when using quill rain?
