10 more ex invested into Fossils and Incubators I hit the exact same thing i already had again (T5 Life/T1 Cold Resist/Nearby Enemies have -9% to chaos resist/open Suffix).
Since i had a backup now i decided to yolo it this time crafted "Suffixes can't be changed" Scoured the prefixes, Exalt slammed it, and actually hit T1 Life on the fist try:
So, since this is pretty much the dream helmet for this build I believe (and since i sunk more than 60 ex into crafting it at this point) I really do not wanna screw up the further crafting process.
3 Crafted Modifiers is not an option, since that is a suffix itself, and the suffixes are perfect the way they are (Nearby enemies -9% Chaos, double Ele Resistance).
My approach would be just double exalt slamming it now, hoping to get another helpful prefix (Maybe some Strength, Int or increased Evasion Rating).
Is that the right choice, or is there a better thing to do with this base now?
Thanks for input.
Grats on the helmet! Anyway i feel so bad you spent so much currency. I was crafting those helmets like with 10-15 tries on average before this league. Even gifted some top ones and claws to players. I'm still spinning from what you invested... Slamming something good now would be pure luck (can't slam attributes, they are suffix).
Anyway that's done now.
I see you are using old gem setup from previous league with Vortex. New one is better with culling strike on HoA. Makes a difference vs Conquerors or A8 Sirus.
Faster Attacks on Whirling are not needed with such good claws. Speed even gets uncontrollable.
ps
Just checked. Mod is 8x rarer now than in previous league. I think ill have to remove it from the guide. Pretty bullshit they've done.
I crafted a couple and it did not seem that hard to get a useable -9 helmet.
Getting one like he has is quite hard, but getting one with life, -9, and possibly can craft 1 resist I dont think is all that bad. Says 1 in 47 chance, avg of 242 chaos for 70+ life and -9.
I dont think you should remove the helmet from the guide. People just have to be realistic in what they expect. Getting open prefix for 20/20 or 35 is good enough for most people and shouldn't cost them too much currency.
He got incredibly unlucky, IMO, and he was chasing a really end-game roll, too. I think where people will get into trouble is chasing resists. Just be happy with being able to roll one onto it, and it should be ok.
I did get unlucky, that's true, but still the Chaos Penetration is far more of a luxury now than it was before.
It is true that is fairly easy to get life + Chaos Pen together, but if you want any resist on top it gets tricky, because there are SO many suffixes you don't want.
Also, as I previously said, my requirements to my helmet are fairly high because of my resistance needs with Headhunter. Wearing a rare Belt makes this FAR easier, because you can pretty much go without ANY resist on helmet and still cap.
Just thought i would add my grain of salt to the helmet crafting process : i've tried a couple "cheap" options and I think the most cost-efficient way to craft it is just go with abberant fossiles alone.
I managed to get the minus chaos res several time (around 1/15 chance i'd say).
After 1-2ex invested in the crafting materials (minus the base) :
Still need to slam a prefix in there and hope for hybrid life or pure evasion :)
Unfortunately you cannot select for any resist on that site, so picking a single resist makes it like 1/600, but I imagine its far less than that if you just need ANY resist. And thats at about 3200 chaos. Id say getting fire or cold would probably move that way down.
You can select multiple resistances and then out them in the same S column (all in S1, S2 or S3), so the site calculates it as "any mod in that group" which affectively makes it "any of these resists".
There are some people who removes fenumus and uses rare gloves with chaos damage over time and strike skills attack one additional target. You can take additional resists from that slot as well. I have not checked how much dps you lose this way but there are a number of players choosing this route on poe ninja. This might be a solution for you and you can focus on high life and a single resist on your helm slot.
Well, you can get pretty sick rare gloves:
Life of course and the +1 strike skills.
And then you have your choice of attack speed/accuracy/high resist/damage with ailments/culling strike and crafted chaos damage.
If you hit any good combination, I think they're better than fenumus, because you can craft the aspect elsewhere and have the amulet annoint as well.
What would be the highend dps of pestilence strike? My pob shows only 3-3.5m dps. That doesn't seem right? Compared to 20m bv for exemple
3m is decent, but it's far from highend.
My gear is pretty good by now, so far I'm on 12.7m DPS with Pestilent Strike, but there is still optimization to be done.
I'm still not using any cluster jewels, which could be a huge damage upgrade, but they cost me life, which I'm not willing to give up. Even Sirus at awakener 8 melts in a few seconds at this point (with Viper Strike switch), so there is not really a point in going for even higher damage while losing survivability.
That said, if you really pushed everything to the limits I think ~20m DPS should be achievable, even though that is just major overkill.

Would you mind linking your pob please? I'm currently leveling this build and would love some motivation to keep me going

There you go. Nothing special, pretty much exactly what the guide suggests.
Getting to this DPS will be a lot cheaper if you don't go for Headhunter. Makes capping resist a lot easier. Headhunter of course makes mapping way more smooth, doesn't help with bossing at all though.
I still switch to a Stygian Vise for the Conquerors and Sirus, cause the Abyss Jewel gives a bit of damage, and Chaos resist on the belt helps a bit as well.
Good luck.
Edit: Seems like that PoB didn't update correctly throught some updates of Gem setups, awakened Gems and stuff. Current DPS is more like 14.5m DPS. I'll properly update it later when i have the time.
The posted version is kinda screwed up I see, so don't follow that. You can just look at my profile (or just follow the guide)

Do you still need to add in "22% more damage and 60% more damage with poison" when using the pob fork? I haven't been adding it so perhaps this was why all dps seem'd so low?
Man you guys are lucky with those helms. There isn't even a proper base for sale rn lol. All that's for sale ilvl 85 are ES helms for 1ex +. I spent an ex on mats trying to get it before I realized I had an 83 ilvl base :/ feel pretty dumb about that, but at least I found an Awakened Spell Echo Support to finance the rest of this league.
