what if i want to do dual axes instead of 1hand/shield? is that possible? can i just take the dual wielding nodes instead of the block nodes?
Hey SupraNova!

Nice snag on the name. It sounds simple enough, but you'd have to change the WHOLE tree, not just the nodes themselves. The tree is min/maxed including travel nodes and block chance. So you'd have to do some considering as to which nodes you from the current tree you were willing to cut to maintain your max block chance along with keeping the tree to a max of level 90 or 91.

You could do it, but it's not an easy swap. It's just a WHOLE new tree.

If you go for it, let us know what you ended up doing!

Just checking in after the weekend (hey, it helps the work day go by faster to think about POE).

I hit level 80 for the first time. I realize I didn't know anything about the game at all prior to Blight and I still no very little.

I'm SSF, so no super gear. Still running 4-link armor with a 2-link addition that I'm using for a Golem. I switched out the Stone Golem for a Fire Golem to push the damage higher.

Changes I made over the weekend. I switched Leap Slam to a 3-link and moved Reckoning to a 4-link. Big difference! Even bigger when I switched out Bleed and Life Gain for Pulverize and Brutality.

I found this nice sword which bumped damage a bit.

I ran the Merciless Lab and added the Violent Retaliation to go with Painforged and Versatile Combatent. I just finished the Bloodless notable and life passives. I've pretty much maxed my skills and I'll be trying for +life nodes. I haven't taken Vaal Pact or Resolute Technique. Not sure about either.

Overall progress, I just killed Baran and got my first Watchstone and I'm still trying to find better gear, especially with chaos resistance. I may run a few labs to try to improve my glove modifier. I tried helmet and boots and got pretty worthless mods.

I delved a bit but I'm only down to about 20 and not sure if it's worth my while.

Overall, the build is a tank. I've died a few times to one shots, but I think my negative chaos resist helped. I'm comfortably running T5 maps and not sure if I should place the watchstone or try to open up another corner in the T1-T5 range to find another Conqueror.

I've only made like 30c in currency, but I"m having the most fun I've had in the game. My Necromancer last league was easy, but I don't feel it was as rewarding as this character. Really loving the in-your-face playstyle.

Thanks again Wrecker.
Hey Thrippy!

Good job on your watchstone! You'll progress no problem. I'm putting one Watchstone in each thingy. Then, once each one has a watchstone, I'll start putting 2 in each. I find it good progress.

Thanks for taking the time to be encouraging. I'm glad you're enjoying PoE and I'm happy to have helped :).

...Question for anyone - I was lucky enough to come across a 6L today, but it's corrupted and is 3G2B1R. Aside from Close Combat, are there any Dex or Int support gems that are good enough to make the 6L better to use than say a 4L that I can customize more explicitly?
Hey King_Haart!

Awesome find! It's really exciting to get a 6-link to drop! Unfortunately, those are brutal colours for this build. I just don't think it'd work. I mean, you could find gems that fit it, but I think you'd be way stronger with a 5 link with the perfect colours.

That's a Build I'm looking for!
Great work, great explanation. It is fun to play, currently lvl 37.
Easy going :) TYVM!
Awesomse Gradoo!

I'm so glad you found something that fits your preferences so well! How's the progress?

Thanks for being so kind and encouraging. I appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again :).

Resolute Technique gives you 100% hit chance. You should take it.

I understand the hesistancy on VP - as it changes the playstyle a bit, so play around with it as you want to feel the differences, but I highly recommend taking RT. Just my $0.02

Thanks, I'll head there next. I think I can remove one of my gems and a +30 dex node I needed earlier for some reason and get there or maybe just 1 level short. Then I can get back to life nodes. I'm a little concerned that I'm level 82 and my life is short of 5k so far. But then again, I am SSF and I haven't found top tier gear at this point.

I did get a blue 5-link armor that I regal'd to rare, but unfortunately it doesn't have a lot of mods. Still can't complain with the ones I got though. Dual 40% resists and a low life add and I added armor to get it close to 1k. Happy to finally add Brutality to my Bladestorm. I'm still using Double Strike instead of Riposte as my boss killer (alternate with Bladestorm) and it does very well with Ancestral Call.

I started delving a bit and realized that there are Azurite vaults and better! Geez, I've been so lame I also didn't go down lower for some reason, not realizing you can just jump as low as you want (at least within reason). I'm staying in the monster levels at 60+ to do the chaos recipe (just to collect for when this league is over).

I had a nice metamorph organ last night that gave incubator items and I got a map one. Look what I incubated! Holy shit, level 16. There is no way I can take this on at this point, so I guess I'll hold on to it. No reflect at least, I think the other mods are doable.

Still loving this build and hoping that with the 5-link I will gain some more killing power. I'm really not struggling up to T5 maps and only the Sacrifice fragment boss (all 4) has killed me. Got there but couldn't do anything at all. Not sure if I should be able to kill that boss at my level or if I went in way too early.

Hoping to find that elusive 6-link or my first SSF Exalt drop, so I'll keep going. Thanks for the tips and advice and the great build.
Vaal Temple! Hang on to that. They don't come by often at all! That's so great for Atlas Bonus %!

Longtime player thats been on hiatus for almost a year, just wanted to jump in and say how much im enjoying the build. Has brought the fun back to poe for me instead of pushing the meta and trying too hard which frankly burned me out to begin with.

I love playing sword and board and it looks more viable now than maybe it ever has been. bladestorm is fun, ive opted for shield charge for my movement. Only lvl 40 so far but looking forward to see where it goes. Still got a long way to go for proper sockets/links for gems etc.

Quick question, havent read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered but since we are keeping tempest shield at lvl 1 anyway can i just opt for running cwdt with it over culling strike? or do we not get hit enough to regularly trigger it?

tia, guide is well written and easy to follow.

We really don't get hit often with our high chance to block attacks. That's why Wrecker_of_Days didn't use Cwdt in this guide.

Well, the base duration of tempest shield is 12 seconds... you could give it a try if at least every ~ 12 seconds an attack bypasses the enormous defenses to trigger the tempest shield reliably.

If you like the sword and board style you might also be interested in having a look at Wrecker_of_Days' cyclone-ranger-guide. She is really good, too. Extremly fast and efficient and tankier than I would have expected an evasion based character to be.
Overwhelmed by Path of Exile? You might want to have a look at Wrecker_of_Days' beginner-friendly guides. One-click-wonders that do not require any specific items to conquer the campaign and the Atlas: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2606288/page/1

I am completely new to POE but had some friends that sent me the forums to check some builds, I looked for hours until I came across this one. I really liked the concept of freedom and being able to choose my gear and in that way learn more about the game.

My friends said and still says it's a shit build with the quotes "At least we have a real build and not anything you like as gear" which I don't really care about. I have had so much fun with this build and I keep learning stuff all the time that I wouldn't have if I just followed another build. On a side note this build wrecks everything for me haha, I haven't died once since I started mapping although I'm still on low tiers.

I really appreciate that you have made this and keep up the great work :)

I created my first character in 2013 and have leveled so many toons to the upper 90's I have lost count. Are there better builds out there? Ya, sure but this build does what it does like a champ. Easy to gear, easy to play and easy to master. It is a great build for learning the fundamentals of POE. Your friend may not understand the appeal of being able to roll a toon that you can gear as you go and that has to work hard to hit the harder content. Play your build and eventually you will find another to try, but by that time you will have farmed a bunch of gear and currency with this one. This is a solid and enjoyable build for mapping for most people. The lack of complication and the ease of play are the real benefits. BTW here is my current gear, lvl 89 all ssf. I am creaming red maps with this set up. I went with laceration just because I hit the enchant in lab.

Made it to level 85 and still doing great. A hiccup here and there, but for SSF, remarkably easy ascent. I've got 4 of the 6 final Trials done and several offerings ready once I get them.

I now have 3 watchstones and I'm combining maps for higher tiers and have several yellow ones ready to go. Just plugging along at my own pace and really enjoying it.

I did find this sword and would like some input. It shows lower DPS in the skills tab, however because it's all physical and has the bonuses, I think it's better (albeit slower, which may make it do less damage).

I put it in play and haven't really noticed a difference, I was hoping for a big bump but it feels the same. The other one has fire and cold damage, but not sure. Only thing better is the speed and I crafted Chaos Resist on it.

Still hunting for a 6-link and better gear, but the sword is the only item I can use that I've found in the last 5 levels.

I did find this which looks awesome and makes me want to build a frostblades character next.
