Why is there such an intense difficulty ramp at Dominus

Dominus is OP, but imho, he's supposed to be. I think the main boss in PoE should be that powerful - and I say this as someone who has his ass handed to him every time I face him lol

Gotta improve my build!

It's not main boss on story i think,or is it ?

No they are mentioning a great beast thats all I know

So I am not of the opinion that the fight was fun.

I think it really could be but sadly 2 things really bother me there. My very low fps* which makes me just happy when I'm done there (and not come back) and the fact that it's just unrewarding lootwise.

But I do think that Dominus is more or less intended to be done after dozens and dozens of high MF Piety runs. I don't know why GGG wants it that way but this ramping-up of difficulty speaks a pretty clear language.

*Thing is you have to keep organized for that fight: Know when to do what and keep a calm head. But with fps of 10-15 and numerous stutters and almost-freezes I am at the end of my wits. So I just keep dying.

Yeah i have overall acceptable FPS for the fight, but especially after phasetransitions i have huge drops (from loading probably), but i can definitely see that being a huge problem. The other thing is that desync really really hurts there. And with the amount of desync this makes the fight just not fun.
On top of that, in third phase i often cannot even see the circle where you're supposed to stand due to the afforementioned fps-drop at the beginning (where i just try to run away) and after that there is so many minions and effect shit i can't see anything. Oh and it's especially fun if one of those instakill rapidfire minions is hidden behind dominus...
For me and so so many others i've talked to, the main problem is the fps drop/lag and so on. I mean sry but considering it's the hardest boss it seems plain stupid to have your fps drop by 75% or more compared to the entire rest of the game when any second lost means you die. It just makes me ask myself what were you thinking: " hmz this is the hardest encounter in the game where you need the smoothest gameplay....let's cut most of the fps from ppl and make it also close to impossible to do it for ppl with less than rocket pc" I've had friends quiting the game simply cuz at the last boss it was impossible for them to play although the rest of the game there was no fps problem. What can i say, really bad bad developed area at Dominus.

For me, the problem is the spike... you level up for the big fight and get your gear on, eventually killing him, and then Act 1 in the next difficulty is pointlessly easy and unrewarding.
At OP tl:dr, but from title and first few sentences i tend to agree. Dom feels like a gear check far above the surrounding content, before and after. Playing mostly solo self found, Dom is a majorly difficult fight to farm for. In normal and especially cruel the farming is frustrating because you are doing it for one fight, your chances of finding valuable items are very low. Even currency drops suck because I tend to be extremely over leveled for the fight.

Tl:dr preping for the dom fight (especially cruel) is quite boring. But i like the fight itself :D

This, to me, is a problem. Again, not that Dom is so hard - but that the A3 content leading up to him is so easy. It doesn't prepare you for him.

I totally agree!
I met him the first time just yesterday. And although I heard about him beeing very hard, it was still a WTF-moment. This is just crazy, insane... just too much and unexpected!

50-60% resists, some armour/ev and 1000 life in normal(!) should be enough for a careful fight, no? I really liked that battle with his two (or three?) officers, hard fight but you can predict somewhat. Dominus himself is too hard, imo. If you don't know what's going on, you have no chance to survive. Nice if you play hardcore...
To be honest, I was glad, that my hardcore-char was killed before by some (unfair) fractured-flicker-dischargers, and I was watching the new content in default now.

Make him impossibly hard in merciless, if you like, at least it's the final fight anyway. But the difficulties before should fit to the surrounding areas.

Yeah sure, no big deal if you play 5h a day...
Dynamit,
Architekturkritik, die man tatsächlich sieht!

Dominus is too OP for solo play, that's all.

If melee and in his first form, he'll just totem you constantly and hose you down with the lightning stream. You just can't get a hit in on him without being showered with lightning.

Once I got a friend and we were 2, it became a cakewalk. One ran away from the totems and lightning, while the other hit him. When agro switched to the other guy, so did we.

On solo merc I tried to facetank him with 7k ES and 77% lightning res and I got hosed down like the rest. He just doesn't care.

You just don't facetank him as melee, at least not his first form... Just play hit and run, and if you have dps problem with his ES shield, switch to puncture/viper strike. Or you can tank him if you have crazy dps (like 50k-100k dps) and high enough life leech. I find that on both his forms, dps coupled with life leech is more important than having high defenses... When you have maxed resists and a 3-3.5k hp/ES pool (for merciless), it's a matter of leeching back faster than what he can deal, expecially on his bug form. In the end, the faster he goes down, the less damage it deals to you and the more hp/ES you leech back...

When I killed normal Dominus with my lv 36 Scion, I had somewhere around 1.3k hp and 30-40% resists, with low armor and evasion. It was a cakewalk thanks to the Pillar of Caged God, it gave me 900+ dps on a 3L heavy strike, and coupled with 2-3% life leech from passives, he went down in less than 5 minutes...

I like the dominus difficulty, and I especially like that you can't steamroll the entire third act. I think it's excellent the way it was done, making finishing the game a real challenge.
