Why dont more people play hardcore?

My level 20 Default League Marauder hasn't died once yet. I saw no inclination to even try out Hardcore since I figured more people would be in the Default League anyway.

Surviving is just a matter of mashing my potions and casting Warlord's Mark and Sweep.
IRON MAN
Playing hardcore is playing Carebear mode and that i do not like. I want action, fast and furious combat. I do like to stand on the brink of destruction.
In hardcore you play those uber safe builds and uber safe playstyles. You voluntary gimp your DPS, you reduce the flow of the game. That's boring.
I prefer to search the limits of the game, to try to kill as fast as possible, which includes the passive tree, my equipment and also an offensive playstyle. The game becomes more risky to play, more rewarding.

In my eyes there is no real difference between those playing hardcore as a carebear mode and player playing safe in normal mode.

I really wish my comp was good enough to record our Chaos runs. If you think all HCer plays slow you are sadly mistaken. In the end game a well built char with good gear should not die. Its the fact that I got there without dying that I'm proud of.

Edit: We run a Shock Templar, 2 Frost Templars and a Ranger. Chaos gets destoryed.

There are valid reasons to play in both leagues, but I do not appreciate you using Carebear as an insult.
And as it is such so also as such is it unto you
Lag
Usually because I like to spend years getting the most perfect items for my pvp char and duel/pvp a lot, which does not work if I have to start over every time I die.
Disregard witches, aquire currency.

I have to second this. I personally played diablo 2.. and now moved on to PoE.. The reason I play these games still is for one thing PVP... And the pvp world has its own bragging rights. You can call softcore players carebears.. but when we are gearing our characters to be the best overall.. not just good enough to kill monsters without dying.. its hardly care bear. I used to always look at PVE as the carebear group and a waste of time other then to gain better items or leveling. So we all have an opinion and play the game for what is fun for us

P.S .. bring in the PVP with the new patch :D
Even that i would love to play HC when the game goes live i will prolly not cuz of few simple things:

- lag that can happen to every1
- ISP problems
- computer issue that can happen
- other stupid in real life etc. things that could make your character die and u could do nothing about that

So i dont want to play lets say 1 years in HC and then one night i loose my belowed character...
But i will prolly play HC- cuthroat league anyway:)

You've got the wrong idea, do you know what does "overall" mean ? Having insane dps while dying everytime isn't the best character overall, I couldn't be proud it. The best dps in addition to survivability is the best overall. Only caring about dps is a much easier way, you barely have to think about it.
The best compromise between dps and survivability is a way more interesting thing to search for.

The fact of dying tell you that your build may be wrong (of course, there may be lag, luck and stuff), this is the point of hardcore for me.
