We could remove the timer all together and un-flaw it. Then no one would feel entitled to any loot, and everyone would have a shot at it.
I never said I was better. There has already been added a timer for those that were upset about the FFA, now everyone wants a rediculously long timer, or individual loot. Whats next? Free levels?
I don't see why the game needs to be so easy. Why must everything be handed to you for you to enjoy it?
The issue is not that we "think" the loot is ours, the issue is that it sucks when somebody is scooping up all the rares just so they can vendor them for a couple of transmutation shards.
Currently everybody who doesn't like the FFA loot just plays solo. How is that better than having another loot system?
And how is changing the loot system making the game easier?
Currently I only play alone or with a group I know and we share loot for mutual benefit.
That is not more difficult than playing with a group of strangers.
I beat cruel, ruthless and merciless and all I got were some maps.

1. The game was made FFA, people are trying to change it to Party loot. This completely changes the game from being a fast paced, exciting loot find, to a game where people don't even have to try to get anything. So yea, it is fundamentally changing the game.
See, you would describe this FFA system as a fast-paced exciting loot find, whereas I would call it a slow-paced, frustrating loot find.
Why slow-paced? People loot hoovering instead of fighting thus doing less damage. People arguing about loot all the time instead of moving to the next room. People begging the ninjas to give them "their" loot back.
Why frustrating? Leap skill allows ninjaing that you CANNOT prevent unless you take Leap yourself - hence, inherently unfair.
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

it has a Semi-FFA loot system
Congratz OP. You clearly understand. Its getting to be a bit much listening to all the "FFA Loot has got to go", when this isnt even a true FFA system.
Cheers.

"Free levels"
Amazing leap of logic. I....don't even. Nevermind. Changing ...or even tweaking the game is not going to make the game easy. Far from it. But I am sure you or someone else will come up with another amazing leap of logic to come to that conclusion.
How is getting gear easily not making the game easier?

a dropdown at party creation should be able to keep the hardcore and softcore player enjoying POE.
FFA
current
30
instanced
or the like
But then the pro-FFA loot crowd would no longer be able to ninja your loot, because obviously 95% of the player base would select instanced loot. This is why they are against what is quite obviously a simple option that would help a LOT of players.

If you want something that dropped, and someone else gets it, offer to buy it. If they say no and vendor it, it keeps the economy stable by not flooding it with a bunch of gear.

That is what you proclaimed. So you provide the detail and evidence as to why. That burden of proof is on you.

Here we go again, if I party with any of you ever. Your loot is mine, I'll make it a goal of mine.

How does instanced loot make getting gear any easier? All it does is make getting gear fairer.
I'd love you to group with my friend Charlie, a Marauder who is love with Leap. I can guarantee you right now you would not get a single decent item unless it happened to drop right at your feet. He's a master Loot Leaper. How does playing for an entire evening and getting almost no worthwhile loot AT ALL sound to you? Hardcore?

So, stop killing things if people are loot hovering. Be closer to the action and the jumping won't be a problem anymore. Unfair is being a ranged, staying out of the fray, and expecting all the loot to be held until your ready to get it.
