If armor functions better you wouldn't need it. If evasion gets more life it would also function better so IR wouldn't be so compulsive. Trust me, if everything was to work out these wouldn't be automatic nodes but they would still be useful.

I like how you make sense, we woulda been good friends in-game. #nosarcasm.

As I posted many times before, the game is now 3x more grindy than it was CB, and now it is just one huge gear check that comes very early in the game, that alone is a huge problem.

That's actually straight to the point i was trying to make in my reply a few pages back. I agree with this completely.

This.
Also, as random of a comparison as it is, it almost reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories. I've been watching ssbmstuff race it lately, and its literally the same as PoE with its progression.

Decent progression at the start, then you hit a brickwall partway through that forces you to grind certain cards (gear) via RNG to progress (grinding for Cruel act 3). Once you do this, you get a decent progression again until another huge farming segment (grinding for merciless act 2), and then once you reach the end of the game, it's purely RNG and you have minimal* control over whether or not you make progress (maps).

*Minimal =/= 0

I must say I did not experience so many gaps in progression as described in the quote on my ranged ranger and marauder and 2H melee duelist. There was a rather tall brickwall to climb over every time I have entered Act3 Merciless but earlier progress was where I would expect it to be. Example of this progression would be Act 3 Cruel where the challenge goes up rather sharply from Act 2 but it is still manageable. Act1 Merciless is very flat to Act 3 Cruel if not even slight drop in difficulty if side areas are not considered.
However, the progression curve could be more straight-forward and difficulty ascension could be more notable, rather than being up and down like on roller-coaster.

However, Act 3 Merciless represent serious brickwall that is quickly followed by another brickwall in form of maps. Those two challenges are different in nature but they are completely degrading any feel of progression in my view--first you must get the gear to be able to cope with the incoming damage, Perpetus is first notion of what is coming, Kole is a pinnacle example, secondly you must obtain maps from static areas to step into end-game.
The fact that Act 3 lacks optimal grinding/farming areas, mind you I like Docks on my ranged chars and Lunaris on my melee, is not helping to ease the pressure on player.

You forget Scepter of God?! I don't think they will add a new area in addition to this. At best this topic (and I hope it does) will make GGG make one of the levels inside SoG be more similar to Ledge or Fellshrine.

that's probably what's in the development of act3x but as you finally meet dominus there (imho damien revelaed this) and people will mainly do boss runs on him anyway i don't think SoG will be designed as grinding area but spiked with surprises.

I agree on almost all counts with OP

Hope GGG takes this shit seriously so we can have a good game that they can be proud of and we can play for a long time. And that would also help make them a lot of money.

Unfortunately their rather quiet stance on quite a few systemic issues (armor for example) doesn't bode well. I think they really believe the current design is something that works, which it does on some levels but fails hard hard hard on some others (melee, endgame "flow" just to name a couple)

But hey, I do sincerely hope I'm wrong and they fix all this shit up sooner rather than later.

Good luck getting the attention this thread deserves Moosifer, it's a pretty good summary.

I've had a few people say they PMed it to Chris and Qarl, also Qarl replying is a good indicator they are reading and taking notes. I highly doubt they'll take what I say word for word but with so many people agreeing I'm sure they'll do some changes. The problem I see with it is they already have a bunch of things scheduled so even if they do make changes I suggested it will be a while. I'm hoping in these next few patches they already had things lined up to address these issues. If there isn't a melee patch and a map patch on deck I'm not sure what they are thinking.

No one is expecting them to fix these problems instantly, but GGG have kept the community in complete dark regarding these issues. At best they have acknowledged it, and even that is rare
Yup, all that anyone's expecting here at least in the NOW is an acknowledgement of those issues or just a general statement on their vision of the game systems and why they must stay how they are or change. At least those being heavily called into question here such as armor and melee at large, endgame flow and a few others.

I know some companies believe the best play is to not talk too much or at all because you might do some damage in the process, but just from what I'm seeing in this thread you have a fair amount of intelligent "hardcore" (or not) players following this game who would love to keep promoting PoE if they knew it was going somewhere good, and the silence doesn't work with them, in fact it just alienates them. So have some balls GGG, speak up say something smart and rekindle the good will of this community.

Past experience with other games is telling me that developer must be very cautious with approaching feedback, complaints and suggestions. Every post from developer or customer representative is creating expectation and tension in the community if not treated carefully.

No matter how solid the feedback in this topic, OP and the rest, is I'm not completely happy that GGG representative popped in to post few lines, even if just acknowledging they are reading feedback. The reason is there are countless other threads, and some of them have certain quality or honest feedback, that do not get this attention. Add to that OP creator is an alpha member and rather well-known character around these forums and the game to start to worry if feedback is not selectively taken only from those "priviledged" ones.

I would be much more content if new GGG post was created, and stickied for a while, to acknowledge "issues" (most probably in general terms) and compliment users for providing valuable feedback in recent days--ie. referring to some of those noto-worthy topics such as this. Such acknowledgement will be clean from any signs of favoritism and other negative aspects that could be associated with it when posted in specific topic.
