Overall Game Perfomance state - and why GGG is in silenced mode about it?

Even 1080 should be to much to ask no matter how many graphic improvments GGG makes.
The GTX 1080 is not a good card in 2024. It turns 8 years old next month. You could argue the GTX 1080ti is still decent but even that shows its age.

The engine is the same afterall.
Except it is not.

PoE is older, and yes, engine is the same with some "improvements" here and there but its the same thing. 1080 is not good enough for games made today but should be able to handle something as old as this one.

As you told - you're trying to run the game in 4K on 4070. Duuuuude... REALLY?

Hard to discuss with people that just make shit up. I never said that.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Path of Exile is a modern game built on modern tech. It being initially released in 2013 is irrelevant.

Prove it.

It is actually very impressive what they're doing on a technical level. These dev talks and behind the scenes are pure gold.

Its just improvements to base engine that is the same. Same thing happened with Aurora engine for example. You have neverwinter knights on one end and witcher on the other. Both games are made in the same engine and yet look vastly different.

do you think an "engine" is an immutable thing that cannot be altered or improved?

where is your proof for that, and how are you able to say "just improvements to base engine" in the same sentence? that's a direct contradiction, no?

No its not. What they are doing is stacking new fancy shit on top of old frame. There are limitations you just cant overcome by doing that. Thats why some things from poe2 cant be ported to poe1. Performance problems come exactly from this endless stacking of new fluff that most of the time you wont even notice. If games like warframe or wow can work better there should be no excuse for GGG.

That's not how it works. Not in modern game developement.

Performance problems come from the game advancing further, adopting new technology and methods that don't work as good on old hardware. It really is that simple.

Warframe had a classic graphics engine once. They recently retired that in favor of the then optional enhanced graphics engine. Why? To realize new features and present upcoming content in a way they're satisfied with, without the technical limitations implied by the older engine.

World of Warcraft was once built on the WC3 engine, modded. That also is no longer the case.

Developers have to make a choice: Support old hardware and hold back technical advancement, or, make use of all the new tech at the cost of making the game inaccessible to a minority. You have no idea what you are talking about.

What is clear is they have put lot of calculations out of the traditional shader pipeline and now GPUs are running hot. Yes, you can do a lot of cool things in a modern GPU, but it must be used with care. That is why the dynamic resolution is now broken and does not even show the real frame rate. A lot of calculations, like color reflections, can be done at vertex mesh stage, instead of a pixel, with similar results but much lower computations.
