Cute, but no. The game adapts to the needs of its audience (whatever that may be) or it dies.
I have an issue with this type of thought process right here. This is wrong.
I've been gaming since I was 7. Back then I thought that if a level was hard or if there was something I couldn't do in a game, I'd figure out ways to beat that hard level, or would practice doing that hard issue in order to become better. This type of thing made me enjoy the game even more because I could tell I was getting better at it.
Today, we have your kind of people. You want it easier by default. If it was yours, then you deserve it. No. That's not how it goes. You adapt or you lose. Darwinism, survival of the fittest. If you can't pick up that loot fast enough, get better at it. This isn't an issue with the game itself, it's player side.
Also, a game that "adapts" to it's audience is generally a dumbed down, overrated, satire strewn piece of garbage. There are many games that have done this and I regret playing them.

It's sad that you actually resorted to this, and enjoy a MAC ban if you think changing your IP will save you.

The FFA-loot doesn't make the game more difficult, it simply makes it more annoying. I can play with some friends and we share loot. The FFA-loot just keeps me away from teaming up with strangers.
I never play in public parties because of the FFA system. Which makes the FFA system completely pointless to me and many others.
I beat cruel, ruthless and merciless and all I got were some maps.

I believe something needs to change, but not sure that I want them to spend too much of their precious development time on reworking the loot system completly. I'd be happy with the timer being increased to about as long as it takes for us to finish off a particually nasty rare maybe 30-60 seconds. That way if I'm "that guy" that doesn't pick up his loot my team can come back after the fact and mop up.
This change would do the following:
First, I'm not disenaging from the fight to loot, which causes uneeded risk to the party and myself.
Second, My team members are not disengaging from the fight to hover over loot that has someone else's name on it waiting for the timer to wear off.
And then if after the timer goes off you loot something without your name on it no one can call you a ninja.....
Increasing the loot timer like this is unacceptable. I play with friends, and this just leads to a ton of wasted time. Either "here come pick something way over here" which requires waiting to move on to killing, or *stand around waiting for timer to expire* before moving on. Both require wasting time waiting on a stupid timer that a stupid RNG is incapable of dropping loot to the right person. This has nothing to do with ninja-looting or anything, but rather efficiently distributing loot to the right person in a group, and a long timer is in my opinion the absolute worst "fix" they could possibly add. This sort of unnecessary delay will affect the outcome of races. It will turn the timer from a mere nuisance to a full blown aggravation.
I get it, looting in public parties can suck, but I will be mighty upset if GGG "fixes" looting for public parties to the detriment of a group that prefers to play at a quick pace.

That is why I'd like an option.
Playing with a group of friends and want to get rid of timer? Sure why not.
Playing with strangers and don't want a single player scooping everything up? Increase the length of the timer.

100% correct. Just add an option and everyone can play the way they want. It's really that simple.

Make the timer last a bit longer if nothing else.
As it stands now we have a legion of ninja looters in this, i must say great game, who are not even being very helpful in fights, instead they are waiting for a chance to pick everything up like bloody vultures and are usually very eager to leave some insulting remark toward the rest of the party after the fight is over and their bag is full.
This is ruining the party based play experience especially for those who play ranged classes and there are plenty of those.
A legion?
People outright trolling parties by doing nothing but going for drops and trashtalking are exceedingly rare.
The vast majority of public parties are not like this at all. Join another party.
Uh, half of the parties I have been in have had ninja looters

I too have been gaming since my single digits and like you prefer the hard road less traveled over the easy short-cut. I am driven in my gaming by being better at the game than yesterday.

This is a game, not life's basic fight for survival. I know humanity still lusts after the days of adventure when basic survival wasn't taken for granted but you don't have to get your fix in a video game.

I'm quite good at left clicking on shaded rectangles if I'm honest. I just don't see why this is a required skill to enjoy Path of Exile.

I think you're mixing two points here. If a company releases a product that it's audience isn't interested in, the product fails. You seem to be complaining about games that have dumbed down, a complaint which I share.

There is so much truth to this. I don't much care for FFA loot, but the entitlement of players these days is seriously out of control.

There are SOOO many ways to make this game difficult AND fun, but you decided to choose looting? Really? Is this what this game is about? Fighting for loot? Right now, it really seems it's what this game revolves around.
