I always hear namelocking is 'bad' in PoE. Is it also 'bad' in other ARPGs ?
Seriously, someone answer this.
for example, out of recent ARPGS, GD has namelocking ST skills and they feel pretty good to me. Do people really hate clicking on one monster or is it a PoE thing ? Ill admit poe is a bit clunky with namelock but it doesnt strike me as some unbearable shit that people make it to be. Is it the lack of animation canceling in PoE ? Or are people at this point simply addicted to aoe skills where you can target any pixel out of hundreds and it will cover the whole area ? Just tryin to get a feel whether people hate in comparison or just in general. Último bump em 4 de nov. de 2016 01:02:33

Well, namelock is ever a bit clunky.
But it depends on the game, true. Normally it should be - melee/namelock weaker for mass/trash mobs, great on bosses, range great for mass kill but weak at bosses, spells average-good at all (depends on the skill). Like Diablo2 was (at least intended) PoE e.g. has a much higher base speed in clearing mobs as GD (AoE obliberation, movement skills etc.) and you need it to reach endgame/farm efficient anytime soon. The faster the game is, the shittier are namelock skills compared to AoE stuff. "better to simply go balls deep full retard if you gonna go retard." -Boem-

Sometimes I namelock an item/mob with move only key and then use a movement skill to move away without disengaging lock then when I disengage movement skill and/or move only key I move back to the item/mob.
That's the only issue I have had with namelocking in poe beyond clunkiness in context of speed meta path of aoe. I guess maybe there are some pathing issues/invisible obstacles as well? |

It just feels bad when you go into a group and miss click somethings name by the smallest amount and your character attacks the air. The game should just check if when you attack with a namelocking skill.. if you are hitting nothing, that it auto targets the nearest enemy.
I went back to play diablo 2 cause I've always wanted to finish my players 8 solo run... started up a barb and was questioning how I ever played barbarian in the first place. It's almost entirely namelocking. I realize that game was much slower paced but it still feels wonky at times. |

It's bad in PoE because of pack size, and the relative easiness of individual monsters.
If monsters were something actually worth clicking on, then namelocking would be fine. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

what they said plus you can get baited into bad position pretty easily if the monster goes for a shamble (for real shamble > name lock)

I don't have any problem whatsoever with namelocking. Then again I prefer a 'slower PoE'.

namelocking? you mean target locking? example:
you're melee you click on an enemy far away your characters moves to it and attacks it hold the button to keep attacking click again to attack another enemy, pick an items, interact with something, move... point and click controls I personally hate these controls in arpg's, it's tradition, it's classic... who said it's bad? if you dare mention "wasd" controls you'll get crucified, everyone seems to love this crap and defend that's it's not clunky, stiff, dated controls the argument I hate the most is that "it's for another genre, it's not for this game, type of game" like defending the old tank controls from the old resident evils, on the aiming in goldeneye and resident evil 4 were the aiming reticle doesn't move the camera and stays centered another argument I heard is that if every game controlled the same, it would be stagnant, repetitive, boring it's like refusing to evolve, refusing something better simply because you're not used to it why do they keep making "metroidvania's" were you can't aim your attacks and have to jump attack to hit something at an angle from you, why do they keep making arpgs with point and click controls, fuck if I know sorry for the rant |

edit: feel like WASD is not a viable solution to any problems that might pop up in a pc-based arpg, ever.

"I dont really see what wasd controls would bring to the table in isometric games besides making them even more clunkier than you claim. mouse gives you so much precision while wasding through isometric with precision is much harder. think controller vs mouse but Im probably the last person to have this rant at because Im a keyboard+mouse guy for life (word to mack 10) and who played dark souls 1 with KB+M and no mods because fuck controllers. lol |
