One Shot Mechanic is ruining the gaming experience, listen to the community

You all guys just playing this game wrong, using wrong builds. GGG has made univocal statement by releasing Voices and Purposeful Harbinger.
You can't get oneshot at 90% all resistances and 75/75 block (Glancing Blows) and 15k flat HP (from Discipline alone). Whoever not using this should not play the game. If you read any of the latest balance manifestos carefully you can notice "F u cK yO u" between lines.
Problem: impostor syndrome
Solution: nerf everything
Result: depressing mess

And which do you people think GGG are more apt to listen to: your vocal gripes about this issue or that, or the absolute proof that despite those gripes, the game must be making a lot of people happy because they keep throwing money at it?

I think that most of people complaining are not used to hearing ‘no’. They think that more whining, more complaining, and more threats will work. I’m glad that ggg is effectively telling these people to ‘pound sand’.

Nothing screams “entitled” more than demanding a game change to fit their vision of play. Most of time these demands are them wanting to make the game just like another game. If they were smart, they would just actually play the other game.
This debate is a little bit more nuanced that this.

The first thing we have to do, is to separate telegraphed one-shots/hits from random one-shots. Telegraphed one-shots are totally OK and do challenge your skills. Random one-shots, on the other hand, aren't nearly as "OK", but if we look at PoE's structure, they more or less become inevitable.

PoE is built upon layers upon layers of difficulty. Mods upon mods. Tiers upon tiers. If a white map is the first layer, a blue map becomes the second one. Then a rare map. then a corrupted rare map. Then we go to the next tier and start over again.

All of this, while we have leech, flask and regeneration that takes your life from 1 to 5000 in a matter of milliseconds (in some cases). So if a "semi hard map" is supposed to be "semi dangerous", it has to nearly kill you often. And when this "semi dangerous map" nearly kills you, a very difficult map will kill you. On top of this, you have "Challenge Leagues", that are supposed to challenge you even more.

And you know what? I haven't even talked about gear. Or player skill. And I'm not going to.

Needless to say: Unless GGG suddenly decide to cut regeneration/flasks/leech in half, "nearly one-shots" is the only way to challenge you - and your gear. And if you then take on a layer of difficulty too much, you will get one-shot.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
Only a blind fool cannot see that GGG have serious issues with the gameplay experience and have been ignoring major feedback for years and years, and even what they do listen to sometimes it takes them years to actually do something about it - it is the opposite of professional sorry to say that.

Then you coming here saying everyone should be ignored when calling GGG on it. Man, you people aint too smart. The thing is, there isn't just a bolean balance setting there are a multitude of approaches to reach towards both sides and all ignored. It is far beyond the good-will-lets-hope-for-the-best and has passed way into the okay-realistically-we-have-observed-them-for-years-neglecting-and-not-learning.

Play enough and the vast majority here will eventually feel the bitter sting of the very same, mark my words.
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

Eh, I feel it would be hypocritical of me not to point out that I have made my share of feedback posts trying to nudge GGG into making the game more into what I wanted it to be. And I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, provided you still believe that feedback makes a difference. When I found this game, it did. Visibly. Because it was a much smaller beast then, and more receptive to course changes and suggestions to maybe not do that. Now that the game is a veritable colossus, I think it's best to just wait for GGG to ask for specific feedback, because they're very much on a determined, fixed course for the foreseeable future. You can hear 'we'd love to do that' only so many times before you realise it's both possibly true and almost certainly never going to happen.

And sometimes that other game doesn't exist. In this case, I do think PoE would be better without one-shot mechanics that go unexplained and just leave a player frustrated. But other games that might not have one-shot mechanics might also not have so many of the things that they do love about PoE. And so we get feedback: I love this game but.

The only way a person can voluntarily walk away from it is to decide that whatever follows the but outweighs the love. And that's when you do a different sort of compromise. One, I think, far less frustrating but also possibly far less rewarding than sticking it out, than complaining so vehemently and passionately.

Because while I think there's a disparity between what PoE players say and what they do, and while I think GGG ultimately listen to the latter, it's also preferable that they retain a disgruntled supporter than lose one content to play something else. Which really brings us to the heart of this matter: how dissatisfied do players have to be before they stop supporting en masse? Like or not, I think GGG are a long way off that moment of judgement.

I sometimes wonder if a lot of the tension you sense in this community is the unspoken knowledge that GGG have them by the short and curlies no matter what.
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I absolutely agree that unforeseeable "one-shot" deaths are something GGG don't understand are - to the player's eyes - the game "cheating".

Cheating is a hot topic for game makers - they ban and block people who dare do it and yet they cheat players routinely and call it "difficulty" *coughs*

Enemies certainly should have attacks which kill you instantly but those attacks should be obvious and telegraphed

I'm sure designing a challenging boss in a game where people with so many builds and massively overpowered characters isn't easy - but it feels like GGG don't even bother...

The Sirus and Catarina fights have similar issues (same designer I suspect) most of which centre on "unintuitive and poorly signposted mechanics" - in a game with a harsh death-penalty and a hardcore mode is this really good enough?

Sirus (on the ground) has a 1-shot deathbeam which he fires without warning - even when offscreen (if I cant' see him - he shouldn't be able to see me?)

Kosis - not really a 'Boss' per-se but one of the hardest enemies I've found - has a massive charging attack which works through walls - even when you're on a different level (and can't target him) - this is 'difficulty'??

I think it's time GGG stopped for a moment and said 'are we making a game or just farming out random shit for people to click on" - I hate to make the mobile game comparison but we're creeping in that direction here...

Give this man a cookie, he understand how shity mechanics in this game are
it was a huge mistake to give people easy access to highest tier content.

noobs rocking 8-mod maps and dying.

then complaining.

your defences and personal skill is not enough if you are dying... get better OR be like me.. drop your level down to T11-13's and be happy again.

I hate to out myself as a mobile game player but PoE sailed past that threshold a while back. And at least those idle clicker games sometimes have interesting themes to them. I recently found one that's designed around tapping quotes from literature and unlocking more books for more quotes. Nerdy AF but definitely more interesting than whatever ridiculous excuses GGG keep coming up with to implement Yet Another Overcooked League Gimmick.

Agree, game mechanics should give some possibility for a challenge, but most of the time it looks like massacre or better to say - headshot :D

Sometimes there is milliseconds to make a decision, if you will have some tiny lag in those moments, then you are dead.

It's not the way, how game should interact with the player...

Or those funny moments, when you think everything is fine and you seems to controlling the situation, when suddenly some delirium big boy jumps on you and here you go, BANG and you are dead :D
