Grynwald's EK Build[Added Gameplay video][Outdated]

With your new gear, why did you switch chain for fork?

Thank you.
Yea I noticed that too, I think he keeps both gems around and depending on if he is battling physical resist mobs or not, he will swap between chain/fork. Fork does more damage.

Yes, I do that all the time. But overall I think I've use fork way more, maybe like 80% of the time. They are both good tho, use whatever you feel comfortable with.

Grynwald,

I am a bit confused on using chain and fork with EK. I thought EK, just like Freeze Pulse, automatically pierces targets 100% of the time. From my understanding of a few posts Mark_GGG has made in addition to the mechanics forums, and wiki, piercing, forking, and chaining are mutually exclusive and only one can occur for each hit based on a priority system. Pierce is at the top of the priority so if an attack pierces 100% of the time, it will never fork or chain.

Am I misunderstanding or completely herpderping on something?

Thanks!

I have a rather silly question but what about a witch version of the build? would it not be better with mana regen and closer to all the other nodes needed? just a thought I was maybe toying with :).
What do you think about transitioning through the middle of the tree versus the witch side?

This also gives you a different path to iron reflexes that's possibly better if you ditch nullification later (although I kept the path to iron reflexes just for comparison). I took the mana regen nodes and cast speed just to make it 98 pts v 98 pts and hit some of the same things you are getting from witch, but it's more the idea of one vs the other that's important.

Well, you are.
EK shoots out 10 projectiles,if you hit only 2 targets ,the other 8 projectiles just keep going and eventually dissipate.I might be giving you the illusion that they pierce, but they do not.
Reason why you would want chain/fork is, for example:
You hit 3 targets , 7 projectiles dissipate,3 projectiles hit, those 3 projectiles split into 2 more , hitting the other 2 targets , which results in you hitting all 3 mobs 3 times each.
Similar effect can be achieved with fork, depending on circumstances.

It is true that, pierce fork and chain are self exclusive ,but EK does not pierce by default.

You can make witch fork,u'll have to prioritize keystone passives differently, and you might have problems with dex early on.

The only reason I would go through the middle is if I need conduit for my group. The witch starting zone is just too good, you get life/ES/Mana/ManaReg/Cast speed. It's just more point to point efficient.Way more.

This is my build at level 80. It's a variation of this build. I forgo the witch area for the center of the tree.

I rushed IR/IW/EB as they are the key components of my build. I respec'd the center of the tree later on to include the damage and cast speed. Most of the other points spent are for survivability and mana regen.

I run pretty much a full Ev/ES armor set.

Let me know what you guys think!
