Ok so if my account is on steam, can i login to that account through the poe launcher or no? I'm assuming not.. which sucks. Or can i create a new account right now, and then merge it with the steam one and be able to access characters that way?

If your account is on Steam then you CANNOT log into the normal PoE launcher unless you've had your account converted to a Classic account linked to Steam as I said before.

OK, so my next question is: can i convert my steam account into a classic account?

Kudos!

There'e a difference between "merging accounts" and "creating an account via steam".
Personally, I played POE before it was even available on steam so my point of vision on the topic is also biased.
So sorry for the little rant but seriously, bashing people for actually no harm done? sheesh.

If your had an account before Steam, then you already have an account with both (if you play on Steam).

I don't play on Steam so I have no desire to link my normal account to Steam. The accounts created ON Steam however cannot simply be linked. They need to be converted.
Sadly by the time the normal poe launcher is downloaded and the support team have converted the steam account to make it work with normal launcher probably steam will be up and running...

LoL time I guess -.-

Go back and read my previous posts in this topic (and others) on Steam.

Perhaps, but then you'll be prepared for next time... there WILL be a next time.
### IMPORTANT ###

To make linking/converting a little faster, I've been asked to have people PM Support instead with the topic "Steam Linking Request"...

Make sure you're signed into the forum using the "Sign in Through Steam" link and not a new empty forum account. Inside the PM please include the email address you want linked.

Current version of the PathOfExile.exe is available here. Note that this will expire at some point with a future patch.

Thanks, you saved my evening. ;)

Logging in with the classic client works fine, tho I only used my steam account until now. Guess it's connected to another non-steam account somehow.

Sadly it looks like you may have to re-download the non steam client and use that as well. Not sure exactly how it works or if PoE doesnt mind which way it starts so I would be interested to know this, if you do re-dl the original client please let us know how it goes ;)
You only need to copy the PathOfExile.exe file from the non-Steam version of the game to the Steam version's folder to play the game without Steam. My friend tested/confirmed this (Saving him from having to download 4.5GB's of data).

You will however need to contact GGG support if you haven't registered a Email account with your game account, otherwise you can't log in (You won't lose any progress via this process).

Seriously, haha! Steam user, bah. Serves you well.

I really don't understand all the hate towards Steam and Valve. I'm sure Valve has done some rather non-customer-friendly moves in the past (although I personally can't think of anything), but that's nothing compared to some other companies people worship (EA, Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, etc).

Big Picture Mode and In-Home Streaming are amazing though I will say. Those alone aren't my main reasons for sticking with Steam, but I really like those features.

So don't use Steam. Problem solved.

I don't get why people have this addiction to a stupid company (Valve) whose stupid service (Steam) charges more for a DD copy than for a physical disc. So what if you can't see all your games at once? Just create a folder with shortcuts to everything if your OCD is that serious.

Also updates are usually miniscule; if it's time for a big update, then go plan something else for 2 hours while POE updates.

Please, give examples of how a digital game on Steam is more than a physical copy. New copies preferably, and not some used or rental games. Would also expect the pricing to be consistent across multiple sources too (not just a single no-name site that just happens to be selling a game cheaper than Steam).

And just in-case people are totally oblivious to this, Steam does have more features than acting as DRM and a game library...

Also, I've never had lengthy patching with PoE with Steam, and I've played since it first arrived on Steam. I can't remember the last major patch, but I was around for SotV, and definitely don't recall any out-of-the-ordinary patch times (it downloaded the patch, took about 30 mins on my DSL connection (like any other thing that file size would), and was able to play right after the download; no 2-hour bs).

Almost want to say people are exaggerating extremely with PoE's patch time on Steam, but maybe there's more to it (maybe I just happen to be sleeping when such patches go through, or maybe people need to learn to clean up their system and Steam files every now and then with something like CCEnhancer).

Do NOT support steam! The last few months have been full of downtimes and problems. I d disconnect every steam game from tzhat shitty plattform if I could technically. Especially DOTA 2 is a pain atm.
