Please explain the "Make an offer" mentality...

Look it's pretty easy.

I'm in a map.
Someone whispers me about an amulet.
Most likely I don't even know what he's talking about since i got around a 100 of them in the shop.
So I will tell him: make an offer while I finish the map. I'll get to you asap.
Why do I ask for an offer?
Example:
I have an Item that i judge to be worth 5chaos. But I can't be 100% certain because I simply don't know all the prices at the moment (they change a lot and that very fast sometimes). So I just wanna hear what you would pay.
If it's more I'm lucky and make more profit then i thought.
-> buyer is happy and I got more profit then I intended.
If it's equal there isn't a discussion
-> buyer is happy, I'm happy.
If it's a little below what I thought I will bargain and sell it for a little less
-> buyer is happy, I'm fine.
If it's far below what i though I will tell you that.
-> buyer normally calls me noob or something.

Most of the ppl that want to buy stuff check poe.xyz for prices for similar ones. So they got an idea what they will have to pay and most sellers do the same thing.
So it's just a matter of "who moves first".

If I as a seller tell you a price. A lot of the people either do not respond (I seriously hate that) or start to insult, despite the price beeing fair. So I just wasted a lot of time.

And at last.
If there are not a lot of posts in the thread that doesn't mean nothing gets sold. Most ppl just get to the seller ingame (fortunately).

When i say "make an offer" it's because i am not sure about the price, but if i like it, i'll accept it.

TLDR: I don't like playing a trade sim.

wrong game dude
Neurotypicals are the worst thing this planet ever experienced.
Yes, I absolutely hate this...

I ask them for what they want, they say make an offer.

I would make an offer, if I KNEW how much it was worth... <_<

YOU'RE selling it, YOU should have an idea what YOU want for it.. -.-

Then they ignore you when you make a "low" offer. I would be able to afford a non "low" price, if only you'd TELL me what you wanted...

They're just losing business that way, and only because of a perceived notion of what they think the buyers are.

We don't even know the item you want, we need to stop playing, TP back to town and search for the item you want before even having an idea of what you're asking.

The only time I tried asking for an offer I got a smut reply of 1 alch for 350 pDPS mace...

There are even people who get mad if you're not immediately ready to sell them what they want as if you're working behind a till instead of playing a game...

Player interaction is BS, I can't understand why GGG thinks it's so important.

Amen

The same thing can be flipped around.

YOU are the buyer, YOU know how much you are willing to give for it, so why dont YOU just offer what YOU feel you would pay for it.

People say they dont know the prices, which I can understand but when a seller says I want 'x' for it you are going to decide if that is too much or a fair deal, so why not just offer what you feel is a fair deal to begin with and skip all the crap and time wasted.

The way I tend to run my shops and trades is when I am posting in trade chat with items, I don't mind questions and a bit of haggling, but when I am whispered out of the blue and am busy I would just prefer to make a fair offer and I'll pause what I'm doing real quick and trade it to you, but if the person wants to sit there and chat back and fourth trying to haggle the lowest price possible, i'd rather not bother. I give good deals all the time, but I do not tolerate my limited game time being wasted.

IF you are truly unsure about the price, they take a moment to look at other similar items to get an idea, don't make the seller stop what he is doing and do research for you. If you have somewhat of an idea of it's value, or even if not, you should have an idea on how much YOU would be willing to give, so offer that. If you have no clue, then you are not prepared for trading, go do some research.

Just as the post I quoted above, we are often playing the game, in maps or whatnot, why not save us both some time and give your offer with the whisper so when we have to stop running our maps, make our friends wait for us, ect, We can make the deal as quick and seamless as possible.

My favorite sentence in the game: MAKE OFFERS! LOWBALLS WILL BE IGNORED!
Most idiotic thing ever.
That is just begging for lowballs, while hoping that some "idiot who has 20 exalts" may make a dream offer.

Note for these sellers; an "idiot who has 20 exalts" didn't get 20 exalts by being an idiot who doesn't know prices and trading... so you won't get your dream offer.

I only trade with people giving prices, which means no loss of time bargaining, bidding and calling people names.
Paying 10-20% more is well worth the time saved by knowing what to pay immediately. You may not realize this when you don't have a job: time is money!
And for people hooked on playing traders. Spend more time doing it IRL, at least you'll make actual money...

Please guys cut it with the car dealership comparison already as it is nonsensical. This is a barter system in a 100% unregulated market, there's no valid reason for you to demand a fixed price shop as a rule. Some people sell with fixed item prices, some people don't, deal with it.

I sell a lot of stuff.

"Make me an offer" is part of the buying/selling process. It is not an unreasonable question if there's no buyout or price on an item, because it's PART OF THE BARTERING PROCESS.

The thing is...sometimes the BUYER is turned off completely if you say a certain price and its higher than what they expecting. Sometimes we reach an agreement, sometimes I get laughed at or whatever.

You can say sellers are messed up, but you can say the same thing about buyers in certain situations. The "trade system" that GGG implemented, IMO, is not smooth/efficient and turns people off because of how rude people are (on both ends...buyers and sellers). IMO, it doesn't really matter what is said, it matters if you're willing to negotiate or not.

But, GGG can't change this. It's the nature of the beast. Sellers will always want to overcharge and buyers will always want a deal. The only way GGG can change this is by taking human interaction out of it.

EDIT: If you don't want to negotiate...look for an item w/a B/O and offer to buy the item out.

People have absurd price imagination for things that are usually considered as instant vendor.

I mean its everyones choice to sell things as high as they want but still it makes it even harder to play this game as a casual if you have to spend 2 hours browsing through 1 dozens of threads to find that one piece of crap armor that may or may not fit in your build. And if you finally found something decent it is overpriced as hell.
