Not seeing many Templars these days :(.
Something about an elderly man running around with no pants on screams sex offender to many.
Who would have guessed? Many lewt.
Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? |

I agree it's mostly the issue with no pants. The character ends up looking ridiculous especially when compared to how grimy and hard the other classes end up looking.
Some people say that Templar has crap starting position but I believe he has one of the best, especially if you're going with spells and want some armor. Also someone posted that the Templars religion should be more ambiguous and I think that is also a big factor. |

Old man with no pants.
The presence of underwear is also questionable. "Witty remark."

Look up the most popular builds and then see how many of those actually profit from starting as a templar. There you have it.
As soon as there's a new flavor of the month that makes good use out of the templar starting nodes, you'll see more templars 100%. |

Character wise, seems the most boring. Templar used to be great for RT elemental spec, totems and maybe niche aoe spell nodes. The totem(old rf spark) nodes were also closest to the templar. The elemental weapon nodes were nerfed and spreaded apart. I'm not sure if sacrificing spark gem for other totem builds like flame totem, incinerate etc was a good tradeoff for diversity usage..
Anyways several nerfs later on, people started figuring out physical crit builds which just makes the templar fallen out of favor / less optimal. Strong physical builds can avoid the use of mana leech gem, unless templar has some nodes that grant elemental mana leech. :D |

If you want to play a character with maximum block chance, high resists and high hit points, the Templar is at an ideal location to catch all the good nodes for such a build. You've got access to the duelists block nodes, as well as the nodes west of the witch; and all those around marauder. He has decent elemental damage capability with weapons, and his aoe skills dont suffer either with his node tree.

I have a free respec still on my 75 templar and I haven't bothered to use it though even though I like the archetype of an old crusading badass in a full suit of armor with a sword and board or a warhammer.
Although there's plenty of nodes for tanking him out, it takes so many skill points it doesn't leave much for any sort of dps if you like to melee. Combine that with the fact that he looks like a loitering bum regardless of how strong of armor and shields you put on him, and I got bored quickly. At least my witch looks like a witch. My armored hammer of rightous wrath looks like blind begger who could due for a protein shake or two. How I envisioned my templar becoming when I started playing PoE: ![]() |
