Not seeing many Templars these days :(.

Scion happened thats why. Also his starting passive nodes also dont help his cause much but after scion was introduced and with her much better starting point and node accessibility the pantless sage was soon forgotten.

Maybe GGG needs to make a better looking templar :)

I've played a Templar several times, usually using the moniker of MrGrayBush or LeapingGeezer, two of my favorite names thus far that simply would not fit any other class. But other than for pure amusement purposes, I also use them from time to time in races strictly because not as many people do so any more. Less competition.

But honestly, the Templar looks the worst of all character options at every point in the game. While aesthetic appeal may not be a priority concern, it does still matter.

I would not go as far as to say that the whole "god thing" plays a factor as another has, but visually and vocally, it does make a difference to an extent.

As per his starting location, it has it's advantages. Ease of access to Increased Area, Elemental Damage, Mana Regen, Elemental Resists, close to Resolute Technique, etc... Simply near perfect for tank oriented builds. His proximity to the Marauder and Duelist STR/Life nodes are a bonus for this as well.

If planning a classic build of leap/ground slam, the Templar is perfect. Also great for infernal blow builds, totem builds, detonate dead builds, etc...

I actually prefer the Templar over Marauder for many melee builds due to this, and will use him in short term races as a caster before I will the witch or Scion. Specifically if I am planning to use Ice Nova as a starting skill, which I do a lot for specific races.

Many just fail to see the advantages to a Templar since the introduction of the Scion.

Because of the Scion nobody plays Templar.

Melee Builds suck to start as a Templar because of slow Attackspeed.

He got good nods at the beginning but sucks when spells get stronger(witch and shadow are better options)

The interesting Crossbuilds are ruined because the Scion area makes you pick useless nodes or you have to take a long detour.

As opposed to what? One of the most heavily used melee classes would be the Marauder, which is surely a poor comparison for Attack Speed. Compared to a Duelist is another story.

The Templar character is badly in need an art design overhaul. The Templar starting area could use clever node of some sort to make it a more desirable place to begin placing points and this node should be intersected with both Templar starting paths.I think a high end cast speed/att speed node would do the trick or maybe even an elemental life leech node would be interesting instead of making elemental LL available to all classes which is being whispered about,
I didn't much care for the Templar's look either at first. But with a suit of holy chain mail, an Aventail helmet and a big honkin' axe, my Templar Tomas_Torquemada is looking pretty bad ass. But mostly I play him because.. no one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition! :P

My main issue with the Templar is the same as with the Marauder and the Duelist: the model is too bulky. PoE's playing area already feels visually cramped (can't zoom out enough), which makes moving "feel" slower. The female classes and the shadow move more fluidly.

Perhaps a silly reason, but still, the bulkiness is the turn-off for me.

The Mara got quick access to berserking....
The Mara receives Faster Attacks as gem.

The Templar well...
Buff ele dmg nodes, buff RT (compared to crit), get some mana or lifeleech over there. Should fix the most.
