I gave eva melee a quick shot and I didn't enjoy it so I'm not really someone to give good feedback on it. From my POV I don't see how evasion works without a ton of life, hence my suggestions.


Just in regards to this (as a high level EV FB Cyclone), you are completely correct in your assessment. It requires a ton of EV and high life to be valuable (and rhoas are super super scary, as is any bear trap/EK user (damn you city of sarn)), but at the same time because of its reliability and arrow dodging, it is very effective to deal with ranged enemies. I have not taken acrobatics because granite flasks are too valuable to lose, but it is a very twitch based build. Taking small hits from lots of enemies stacks up quickly to pain, and you need the health to be able to survive these. WOrks great against those slow attackers though as you only take a few of the big hits
I have already think about evasion dodging % of incoming damage based on the performance of your evasion ''roll'' and imho it seems logical, after all in ''real life'' there is others possibilities than ''totaly avoid an attack'' and ''get stabbed trough the heart'' scenario. Such as : ''you avoided a heart stab attempt thanks to your side dodging, but you were not quick enough to prevent the blow to barely pierces the leather armor on your arm instead''.

In fact going this way there is a ''possible'' fix for armor/ev hybrid armors, they should be of course less effective to dodge than pure evasion armor but more effective to reduce these ''barely hits'' damage (the character manages to receive the blow on the steel/scales components of the armor etc). And I think it goes well with the GGG philosophy of ''armor is good against multiple toothnail attacks''.

That said I don't know how it could be release in game according to balance in general...
I remember a while back when the DEX tree didn't have so much life and people were giving feedback a popular option was having glancing blows. I forget exactly how the person worded it but I think if there were two rolls, one for complete miss and another that had basically an RNG DR, from 5% damage reduced to 95% then it rolled over to armor. I think it could actually make armor/evasion worth using.

I suggested something similar, except I split EV and a portion of it applied to how much DR would be granted to a glancing blow. Result would be effectively greater chance to hit / be hit, albeit with very high DR (95%) at "near miss" and scaling down to 0% as the attack becomes more accurate / the character failed to evade at all.

People argued against it stating that any form of DR would make EV too much like AR. I disagreed, and still do, because the sources and nature of the forms of DR are fundamentally different. Not only that, but any real world form of evasive combat technique is not solely about completely avoiding an attack, but also knowing how to "roll with the blow" when avoidance is not possible.

It has been 2 months since my last log-in in POE, and today I don't even hate/regret it, I simply don't care anymore. To put it bluntly Path of Life Nodes/Wallstreet/Conformism bore me to no end. And apparently, I'm less and less alone with this feeling according to the increasing number of excellent thread such as this one that are blossoming in this section of the forum.

I find this sad, because back then in CB I was on my mountain top shouting to everyone how unique and interesting this game was. Since OB however everything changed to the point I wondered if I was not playing a mirror-universe version of the game, I really don't understand why they have warped so much the game for OB when nearly everything was already perfected in CB.

What is more sad is that GGG seems to ignore the truly dedicated players who are here since CB and are genuinely concerned by the well being of POE, such as yourself Moosifer or CanHasPants, and instead blindly walk into the Gehenna of POE...In CB GGG succeeded in creating their own hardcore fans population, promising to never abandon them, but OB really feels like that in so many areas :s

i like how everyone is naming their feedback thread "comprehensive" when it isnt acutally comprehensive they just saw this thread get popular and they think its because of the title not the content... chirst..

I just read the entire OP and I just wanted to say thank you to Moosifer for writing this. Every word is the truth, and most solutions look pretty darn good.

The only thing I would like to add is about auras, or more exactly mana reservation, which is really the source of mana problems. There would be fewer mana problems if you had your 500+ mana pool at end-game available for usage, but the necessity of stacking auras prevents this. Hallowed mana flasks might see usage, and mana leech and clarity be for extreme cases (or lazy people who don't like to pot).

The game would be better if you could use only 1 aura max, no mana reservation, and if you want more there'd be a keystone/uniques for that. A good player could level a couple auras, and switch on the fly depending on the situation --> Player enters a room full of ele squellies *casts purity*. Room clear, need my more damage before proceeding *casts anger*. See where I'm going? More of an active skill and less of the passive buffs that they are now.

Since Beta Manifesto Feedback thread is nearly an unreadable mess, what do you think about the dev's concepts and ideas ? Do you feel they have responded well to the problems we all agree upon ?

I do. While I might not always agree with the direction taken (but have to accept it) simply having evidence that they are paying attention rekindles some hope that there is an end game (to the development process, don't mean maps) agenda to which these changes are considered against. In essence, that is what has concerned me most.

Yet another great thread (really enjoyed reading the duelist thread Moosifer), now if only GGG could make their manifesto feedback thread this interesting...and plausible. Read between the lines in that manifesto, and cramming all the feedback into one thread,hmmm do they(GGG) really care about comprehensive specific feedback?
