Fellow HDD players: I thinke we're being saved

2020 you still dont have a SSD?

holy crap and i thought I was poor.
My end, it justifies my means,
All I ever do is delay,
My every attempt to evade,
The end of the road
And my end....

And by this I mean "SSD Trolls".

Maybe the flame war started when I said "SSD Trolls". By that I mean people like this, that just want to troll by "I can buy you can not", "lol trash pc", etc. The real discussion is not HDD x SSD, or who has the better PC or not.

The real discussion is that GGG devs didn't use best pratices or made programing mistakes that SSDs were masking, and people with HDD had problems for ages, but GGG never addressed the issues because "lol SSD" trolls.

But in the end the truth always comes up. GGG addressed the problems. Let's see if they were fixed.
"There's no thing like random one-shots in this game. You only die because you take 353,456,237 hits in 0.2 seconds."

Non-potato pc players: "Wah crashes a lot screen tearing weird process-magenta boxes on my screen invisible bosses unplayabel game"

Me on my 10 year old quad core potato: "welcome to the last 3 years of my life, would you like a tissue?"

That said, I see people throwing around the term "Best Practices". This but with the caveat that those same "best practices" tend to change over time, and if you have shareholders, long-term improvements in engine design often take a back seat.

It's like the old saw about "Good, Fast, Cheap" car repairs. Pick any two.

Launch options before and after patch: --noasync --waitforpreload --nologo
Spinny gears >>> login screen is noticeably faster. Login screen >>> town is the same.
Also tested without launch options. The lag still persists longer than the minute shaved off those loading screens.

Loading times on first launch of the day are worse - but the difference is noticeably smaller. Loading into town from acts is still egregious (e.g. "not responding" for 2 min). However, neither has led to a crash or indefinite freeze since the patch. Fingers crossed.

I'm testing another character so I can't speak for endgame. Has HDD map performance changed for anyone?

There are and have been really good spin drives with quality caches on them, that perform incredibly well in general.

Most complaints around HDD is when people have poor quality components or are using storage drives and running programs off them.

Or people who don't bother to use partitions and allocate drive space appropriately.

It's like riding a bicycle with a flat tire or only one tire, sure you'll get there but it's going to be painful and alot of extra effort.

Anyways - quality parts, well maintained and used for the correct task. M.2, Sata SSD or HDD it's all good.

I think the bottom line is what GGG did with this update is great, if it impacts you more than others, even better.

As for cost. It's your money, your choice. I've been using SSDs since before 2012. Never paid more than 80CAD for one, and I would never go back to HDD outside my mass storage. That's my choice.

I am glad your happy with yours!
Still the same amount of freezing and stuttering when enemies spawn (legion encounter, intervention assassins) but noticeably less crashes during loading screens.

I guess it's better than before? Please fix the stuttering though :)

Context for this post: I have an SSD on both of my systems but I wanted to see if the most recent patch made things better as expected for HDD systems. I thought, "Well let's look at the last two pages and see if I can find a post with the answer."

It seems a couple people with HDDs have seen some significant improvements. Is that correct?
