Removing "Filter White Items"

I never used this feature anyway.

So, what I gather from this thread:

- Most believe it is fine to remove the feature as it is outdated.

- There is a need for end-game filtering and especially for groups.

- Best case would be improving the feature to be more customizeable.

I find the current implementation at best worthless and at worst a hindrance for newer players to learn the game.
Removing it is fine with me. For larger groups and for item cluttering like from chests and wealthy, there is a need for some way to filter items.
Since this feature works in its current implementation, it does present a possibility to further develop the function to be useful for avoiding too much cluttering.
I think taking it out while improving the feature is fine. If another feature for reducing the cluttering of items on the ground is made, I would suggest waiting with disabling the filter untill the feature is implemented.

I filtered white items out while in a party with competitive looting. It let me register the good things visually very fast, without distractions, and made it easier to click the right one.
I'd venture a guess that this is a big reason they want to remove it.

Filtering whites can give a big advantage in the timed allocation loot system. Firstly, there is the aforementioned visual detection speed. Also, someone who wants to see whites has a much harder time clicking on his allocated loot, allowing others to quickly move to it and camp out the timer. A flood of white items from a large chest, for example, can move an item's name popup far away from the item itself. Mis-clicking by a pixel can mean a loss of allocated loot due to the time taken to run back after you realize you missed it. Filtering white items keeps item names closer to the items, mostly nullifying this issue. Basically, not filtering whites can be a negative aspect to gameplay in a party.

I also agree with a previous poster that this type of system is a cop-out. Why have the items at all if you tell the players that not seeing them is probably a good idea?

Automatic detection of awesome loot isn't something I want in this game.
I agree completely. Some effort should be required to deciding what loot is worth acquiring, not just checking some option boxes and letting the game tell you.

I disagree.

I don't think options for the player, especially UI options, should ever be removed.

I played with white items off for a good portion of normal, but then I realized that maybe I needed white items that had good links setup, and that I needed to start making some whetstones and armor scraps, so I turned white items back on.

Perhaps I'll get to some point in my career where I don't need white items on anymore. It would be nice if the option was still there.

I'm not going to look through screenfuls of white items without some way to filter them by sockets, quality, etc. I'm not just doing it. If this means missing the occasional good item, then so be it. I'd rather not play the game at all than examine every single item that drops.

I'm just not going to do that.

I discovered that it's better to keep white items on, however using the Press Alt Key filter to actually pick them up.

So, I can see all the mess, but I don't accidentally pick all the trash unless I really want to.
Never give up, never surrender !
I'm for keeping the option, too.

- for the looting competetive in multiplayer: if its really taken as an advantage to use the filter, the other players have the option in the exact same way.

- for the drop amount, also in mp: its way better while fighting, to reduce the visible load of drops as much as possible (seen in a party of 4-5 yesterday) to focus better on the monsters.

- for the valuation: 'trash' drops could have a value to the player in many ways, like listed by TJJ - mainly:
- base item type (item level)
- socket count/link count (with 'chromatics' as special case)
- quality for whetstones/scraps

but I dont think, it would be a "good" solution to make the filter options even more complicated as now, I have no problem to take the little amount of time to check the ground after the mobs are down.

idea: maybe we could have increased visibility (shining/glowing/brightness?) on items with a) high socket count b) high link count c) high item level (may be somewhat obsolete by name) d) quality

The time period that it was added was when we had much worse item spam and high level players were actually drowning under white items. This has since been substantially resolved. Being aware of white items is an important part of the game. They can represent gear upgrades, crafting opportunities and can have very valuable quality and/or socket arrangements.

I trust you see that it is now imperative to increase the inventory size so we can actually take advantage of this and pick up these advantageous white items. :-)

ps Have you read my PM I sent ages ago yet?
Ascension tied to Lab is the worst thing GGG has done...apart from GGG's philosophy on Trading. Oh and Gambling Loot boxes. And selling out to tencent.

I used to love GGG. I supported to ensure GGG remained independent, now I just wish I could get my money back. -_-
Inventory size is fine, nothing there that needs changing, and I don't think chris will even consider this at all, not even as an option available by microtransaction.
There is NO NEED to remove it. Its not locked to always on. Its a option, and options are good. Why people are hoping for something that IS ONLY ON IF THEY TURN IT ON to be removed is beyond me.

Leave it the way it is. If it didn't have a toggle I would agree that it needs to be removed. But myself and other use this feature when we are tired of misclicking mobs only to run next to them and pick up an item. Its incredibly frustrating to die like that.

White items can mean crafting opportunities. If we feel like crafting. Otherwise we will run past them like we always do.

And yes, we realize when we turn this option on that we may miss some godlike 6 link armor. We accept this. Why would you take that option away from us?
