I like the option to turn it on, my monitor is only 15" so white items clutter up my screen so much sometimes its hard to even see monsters in tight areas. I lie being able to hit alt and scan what's around but i like chests always being highlighted.
So I say leave it off by default and let players choose for themselves if they do or don't want it

I will be very disappointed to lose this common arpg feature. Filtering white items really cuts down on visual clutter, while allowing me take greater notice of more important drops. All that visual clutter really detracts from the immersive experience.
I have no problem obsessively hitting 'alt' to check the slots on dropped whites. But once I check I want them gone from my screen. I tried seeing what it was like to not filter the whites and have all items be invisible unless I hit 'alt' and I almost immediately started missing currency items.
Please do not remove this Quality of Life feature. It is already off by default and people will learn the value of whites over the course of gameplay anyway. Having them constantly visible does not make them more appealing.

i think the most sensible thing to do would be to leave it in but maybe make the player check an additional box.
or expand the appropriate tooltip warning that the player may miss some items that might be an upgrade.
in the end i think having the option is far more desireable than limiting players options.
after all its easily conceivable that a player might grind through some parts just looking for some blue/yellow items, and he can just filter out items he is not interested in. and when he comes back to a part where even whites might be improvements he can switch off the filtering

I actually turned it on for a couple of minutes yesterday to reduce the item clutter, then I remembered that the majority of my high level gear started off as whites. I was like, "what the hell was I thinking?" and turned the option off.

I really like this option. I don't understand the need to delete an opt-in option which perfectly works. I use my alt key to see the white drops once to make a quick survey and move on. I prefer to play without white names all over my eyes constantly. This is coming from someone who has crafted and still wearing some nice rare items from white ones.

I would keep the option - occasionally I will run a higher lvl character through an area looking for a specific unique/rare and don't need to see all the white :)
I do agree that it's much better now that gazillions of piles of crap don't drop constantly.

Instead of removing it, why not expand upon it?
I would like a filter to set so it only displays white and blue items if they are 5linked, or 6 socket. or for very specific white items. It would be nice to set up this entire advanced feature to only show say certain white rings for instance and only if the implicit value is > whatever you set it to.
I think this would be insanely convenient, but at the same time, if you want us to stop for every white item and check them all I can keep doing that.
I got bored of it on my latest character, who will let stuff die behind me or off the screen, and never bother to loot. I am sure i have missed out on some valuable orbs, but kind of don't care right now considering I want him higher level.

There is way, way too much crap dropping in multiplayer.
And of course in multi you rarely get the time to empty your bags. So personally I just have to leave everything on the floor and only grab the orbs and rares.
This, is another reason why the "pre-allocated" loot is a better idea. In this case a third of that crap would be on my screen.

We feel that the "Filter White Items" option in the UI settings is bad for the game and that it never should have been added in the first place.
I'm very much with you on that one. I always felt that it was a relic of a time when white items were either so ubiquitous that it was needed or didn't have the value they now can have.
Compared to other ARPGs, this is a point I tend to peddle to other players: "Guys, in PoE, you will have to decide from item to item if you pick it up or not. Yes, you will choose a white item over a blue one. Yes, you will learn to just let blue ones lie. Yes, you will cry with joy when you finally found that white armour that offers the right amount of sockets in the right colours. No, this is not like D2/D3/Torchlight, where white items could as well have not dropped."
