Fellow HDD players: I thinke we're being saved

Either way 250GB SSD is like $40.

Don't see why ya'll don't just upgrade anyways.

That's chump change. Takes 2 seconds to install.

Either way I'll leave ya'll to debate about how them patching to make HDD more efficient is somehow not helping HDD players or whatever the debate is here.

People are/were probably saying that GGG shouldn't optimize for HDD because they didn't expect people using SSDs to benefit. That time/money could be spent adding new features or fixing other issues.
I would argue that this is a higher priority issue in terms of game performance, especially since even on an SSD things like Legion can still cause hiccups. PoE tends to load new things unexpectedly and dynamically during the actual gameplay.

But most computers are still run on HDD.

I wanna see where you got this statistic. Like really, really curious how did you come by that statement as true.

Yes, i too have an hdd, but i use it for storing music, movies, random larger files. But primarily for basically everything else including games and OS, i have an nvme drive. Now you don't need an nvme, but you basically do need an ssd, and last time i checked, essentially every PC above 250$ price range comes with primary storage as an SSD (according to newegg)
No rest for the wicked.

Quote me when I said SSDs don't work and I'll give you a mirror.

A question for you SSD people: why should not GGG optimize the game for HDD?

Whenever I complained and gave feedback about loading times the answer was always the same: "buy SSD". But I never had a single good answer as to why GGG should not optimize the game other than "SSD are cheap".

I really wanna know, what's the problem on GGG fixing and optimizing the game for non-SSD users?

PoE has many small files inside its .ggpk. HDD has to search for xy amount of small files and because of how PoE program is build and how HDD works it takes that long time. Depends on how .ggpk is stored on your disk and how is .ggpk fragmented inside as well matters.

Now it seems re-download will try to minimize fragmentation, and basic/most used files are going to stay in memory - so most probably PoE is going to search for files needed based on location/map you are going to enter only.

SSDs became mainstream only recently...

They existed 10+ years ago, and it came at the major drawback of a low lifecycle, hence it wasn't a default choice for both vendors and buyers. So if you have a computer older than a few years and it's not a gaming setup, it's likely you use a HDD.

Do I really need to explain the obvious?

@SSD Trolls

Man, how people are these days... Something that will be good for a lot of players and doesn't affect them is being trashed just because SSD will not make you feel special.

It's funny to see that people need to feel superior chose everything possible, including ridiculous things like HDD x SSD discussion. Some people must have spent the money in a therapist or something instead of SSD.

But if that makes you feel superior, happy or whatever you feel, ok, you are special, you are the best, you deserve to be praised.

Condescending much?

The world moves forward. Whether or not you agree - or what to take advantge of new tech - SSD are starting to be the norm. I hardly think you'll ever see a laptop sold/produced with an HDD, and even desktops are there soon.

But you're right; GGG clearly have the information here, and feel they 'need' to support old tech to perserve the player base. There is nothing negative about this update. But I just fear that their 'need' to support old hardware and the man ours/resources used, are hindering them from moving forward and taking advantage of modern, everyday tech.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
This thread is troll bait.
